What would you like to see done

Yet again, the town is about to be besieged by travellers. Every time that more people come into town, crime rates increase - whether it is a matter of dumping litter, fighting in public among themselves or other criminal activity.

The travellers create no go areas in public places, sports fields or privately owned areas. They are a society unto themselves and follow their own laws with little regard to national law.

What would you like to see done about these people? Should they be allowed to travel to organised sites only i.e caravan sites? Or should authorities be forced to create new sites for them? Should the travellers be made to pay toward Council taxes in the UK? Should the travellers be allowed to advertise for work that they are not competent of doing?Or should they have some form of insurance to cover any damage caused by poor workmanship?

Personally I think they have the right to live as they want to but they should not be above the law , and they should contribute to society by paying taxes , they should definately not be allowed to advertise for work they are not qualified to do . And they should have public liability insurance .

angry yet sad inside too .they do themselves no favors and create the very vitiol and response to their being and lifestyle choice, and victimise their own situation, of their own creation.the wheight of societies laws shoud apply equally to all lifestylers .whatevertheir backgrounds or following.as any human being respect is earned and consideration for those around one ,is a paramount factor in mutual acceptance of eaches place in the world shared.its a shame because have had many encounters with the community and within their sect they have very bounded rulings, and have met some very nice ones, but we are as outsiders to them ,as they are to us.they could achieve sooo much more respect if only they treated their dropins with respect of the communitys they use.

Travellers, taxes, and insurance, all in the same sentence, now that’s a novelty.

We have a similar problem down here and they took over my local rugby club a few weeks ago. Not seen the figures, but it's an annual event that usually results in around £5k of clear up costs and of course a facility that provides stuff for 100s of kids every week was not available till the damage was repaired.

They are entitled to their lifestyle and should be required to compy with all UK tax, employment, business and common/criminal law including trespass and criminal damage. These should be enforced. If they either paid taxes, or paid the costs of where they stay it would be better - but they don't.

Councils should provide a designated site with water and rubbish disposal facilities.

There's a permanent site in Formby but Sefton do not have a transit site.

I don't think Southport will get a large influx as in previous years after the Appleby Horse Fair. They seem to have chosen Formby on the way back to the Irish ferry.

Personally I'd like to see them offered free flights back to Ireland. It would take a while but a couple of caravans at a time in the back of an RAF Hercules then whilst over the Irish Sea open the ramp and climb steeply, should be able to manage between 10-20 caravans and their inhabitants a night.

A great many do not return to Ireland immediately where most of the Romanian travellers have established houses in a place called Rathkeale, Co.Limerick but locally this has a more defined name. They continue travelling through the UK. All over Ireland, the travellers have bought houses. Several of the travellers have also purchased houses in the UK but maintain contact with the travelling community. They still go to various places throughout the UK and to many countries abroad, but again due to their activities they are not welcome in most countries.
How is it that people who have no formal education, or very little, who have no written references, no records - are able to find any employment at all in the UK where it is necessary to be able to show some form of identity and past history to gain employment?
If these people are not working on a steady basis, how is it that they can afford new vehicles and caravans and have money to purchase houses and live relatively lavishly? How do they make a living?

Did you hear about the Blackburn Brewery issue? Travellers ransacked the site, workers belongings were found to be missing, ripped off copper pipes were said to be found in their vans. workers had to be escorted into the brewery by the Police as the travellers stopped them attending, they had fouled inside the offices etc., and yet there were no arrests made!

There has been such an outcry by the public, the Police have had to make a public statement - which has done nothing to quell the protests and now Lancashire Council are asking for people's views on the issue - I bet they get thousands of responses.
