Where are the Boarders of Churchtown
Wondered where the boarders of Churchtown are?
I know the boarder between High Park and Churchtown goes down the middle of Roe Lane but where are the other sides?
I ask because I got a leaflet advertising McCarthy & Stone flats on Cambridge Road. Which says they are 'in the heart of Churchtown' and
'Churchtown is a tranquil historic village close to Brunlees Court'.
I would have thought Cambridge Road was in Hesketh Park area.
Anyone got a map showing the boarders of all the different areas of Southport and what they used to be called? Blowick seems to have disappeared into Kew.

There are no official borders for many districts and localities. They mostly originated as separate small villages or settlements that expanded over time into one urban mass.

Where reputationally speaking, there are high contrast borders, residents and estate agents tend to be quite creative about describing where they live.
I've heard a few people describe themselves as living in Churchtown, when they patently live in High Park.

It depends if you are buying or selling the house. I'm sure people on one side of Roe Lane are chuffed to bits to hear they live in High Park.
£1 to 1p you won't find any that agree

Not sure where you got that from. I thought it was widely accepted that High Park and Churchtown both start at the "lane ends" roundabout at the far end of Roe Lane so Roe Lane itself is can be in neither.
Roe Lane is simply Southport.

I once heard of someone who was having a new car delivered, giving their address as Milton Street Churchtown. The salesman brought this person down to earth somewhat by phoning and asking for directions, as the only Milton Street he could find was in High Park.

Spot on.
And talking of borders, I recall a case many years ago when a man rang the solicitor's office I worked in to ask if it was legally binding that he'd been stopped by police for speeding. His case was that he had been chased from Banks into Southport and he didn't believe the police had jurisdiction as the border from Banks ceased at the Plough roundabout. They say God loves a trier!

There does not appear to be any strict borders for Churchtown. The area was very popular until people merged more into South Hawes (Southport). Most of the references are for North Meols. Even back in the twelfth century the division of the land is somewhat vague. Something I did not know was that where Botanic Gardens is - was the Tram Station for trams out to Cemetry Road, York Road, Aughton Road etc., and back to Botanic Gardens. Anyone know which house was the old Police Station in Churchtown, located along Botanic Road?

A bit like a woman who's just bought a house in Gosforth Road in High park but likes to say she lives in Churchtown, lol.
