can some one in the know tell the public how much money has been wasted on these alterations, manchester rd has managed for all its life as it was, it must run into hundreds of thousands, complete waste of public money....or are council officialls on kickback payments...there was nothing wrong with this road and pavements

Personally I think it's a massive improvement for pedestrians. A decent upgrade especially with the facilities in the area.
I guess if your just driving passed there is little to no improvement.

Well apart from it was very wide, and there was no pedestrian crossing at all. I think it is a vast improvement, Even though I personally only ever drive past that area. (every week day for the last 31 years.)

And just who does it help and how?

Same as with every set of pedestrian lights, It helps Pedestrians. I personally never walk around there, but I have eyes and can see the massive improvement in safety for those on foot. Much better than these half arsed attempts of putting island in the middle of the road which are the latest trend.

I don't know the answer to this but just how many pedestrians do you get at that junction? I drive through that junction quite a lot and I don't ever remember seeing that many pedestrians. Maybe I've just not been through there at a time of the day when there are pedestrians about.

I'd imagine a lot more now there is a Spar on the corner, along with a child's play area and a church.

Good point. But I would bet most parents will be taking their kids by car to the children's play area. Is there any additional parking around there now?

Think there is a little parking to the rear, but not much. The bulk would have to be on road parking.

I was told that a good proportion of he money to do up the road came from Spar. I'm not sure that the re-paving is the best use of the money. By the time they have finished with the pavement renovations and roadworks half the little businesses will have gone under!

I just hope that the people who use the pelican crossing here aren't like some of the idiots who use them in town, it's sad to see so many people (young and old) who walk up to the button and then press it BEFORE they've even checked to look for traffic on the road, they then check the traffic, see that it is safe to cross and then cross without waiting for the green man, they then get halfway or all the way across the road and then the green man shows.
If only they looked before pressing the button that they could actually cross the road without having to press the button.
