    rising crime rates

I see that figures just released indicate a rise in reported crime, the rise in knife crime particularly troubling up nearly 20%, also we now have the lowest number of police officers for decades, yet according to head in the sand Tories, these two factors are not connected, rather it's down to "better recording of reported crime"

Now I remember hearing that self same message quite frequently in recent times, whenever some report reflects the reality of criminal activity, when are Tories going to wake up to the simple fact that we can't have continual cuts in funding and personnel yet still receive the same service, this of course applies right across the public sector.

They could make even more cuts if they let people carry handguns again.

Your are referring to a national problem, not just local, yes? Crime is increasing by a huge percentage - and there are a large number of causes. Drugs are a main factor - there have been a huge volume of drugs brought into the UK, mainly from across the more open borders of Europe. First generation of discipline lacking children who have now become parents. Insufficient work for young people, particularly if they are not well educated. Large estates being created giving rise to and increase in gangs being formed. Overseas people importing their own from of violent behaviour that has been adopted by British criminals. Overseas criminals finding it easy to cross borders and escape punishment in their own country. Then of course - the shortage of Police to deal with an increase in crime, and the ever soft sentences given that mean no more than a slap on the wrist!

"However, when fraud and computer misuse offences are excluded, there were an estimated 5.9 million incidents of crime experienced by adults aged 16 and over in the year ending March 2017.
That represents a seven per cent reduction from the 6.3 million incidents recorded in the 2015/16 survey."

Wakey, wakey Hamble, knife crime up 18%, burglary up 10%, car theft up7.8%, you can play with stats as much as you like, but crime on our streets and around our homes is on the rise, that is the reality which affects the average citizen.

You need to post a link rather than quote the DiM.

    Anti-social behaviour is well up.
