I agree - it is so sad to see the state of the gardens in general; I really do blame Sefton Council for this as it is they who have allowed things to get to the stage where it is an expensive exercise to put them in order. A couple of years ago the Botanic Gardens Action Group asked permission from the Council to 'do up' the boat-house but were told in no uncertain terms that it would contravene Health & Safety to allow 'the public' to undertake remedial work! It seems that Sefton can't/won't do the work but they won't allow anybody else to do it either - I fear it is all part of a bigger picture

Remember when former police force member Gordon Leather took over the running of the boats after he retired from the force? His wife Doreen was a popular barmaid in the local pubs.

yeah, its a real shame about the state of the Botanic garden boat house, i grew with it often visiting it with my parents. It's typical of sefton council to let it gradually decay over time, yet at the same time they would be on the ball to let an individual know they need to sort out their untidy front garden etc! its definately in need of alot of work and restoration. instead of spending stupid money as they do on things like the silly unwanted granite furniture in king street ( and now cancalled ) why not put it twards something like this that people appreciate... an article should be put in the local southport visiter about this and similar related issues.

can some local builders and joiners not fix it as a voluntry favour? i know its money to renovate it and all but if people joined together to do it? I think that there needs to be a Botanic Gardens Action Group!
It is such a shame that they have been allowed to get into such a state and the best thing for them is prob to be demolished and rebuilt.
