A volunteer support group for people suffering with chronic pain in Southport and Formby is celebrating its 10-year anniversary on Friday 4 May 2018. The volunteer group, ‘Pain Clinic Plus,’ has been operating from Ainsdale Centre for Health & Wellbeing, PR8 3RJ, and is run by people who experience chronic pain with a view of supporting each other.
This is a unique celebratory event that is primarily targeted at people who experience pain, and their families, carers and friends. Pain Clinic Plus runs in conjunction with the NHS Community Pain Service, based at the same centre, and is an example of a successful expert patient and professional collaboration in the health service to sustainably support those living with long term conditions. The event will begin at 10am until 2.30pm.
The event is also an opportunity to hear some heart-warming stories of how the group has positively impacted people living with chronic pain.
One particular human interest story is that of service user Kevin who will be at the event, along with a life-size Dalek (Doctor Who) that he built with his son! Unable to play football with his son due to the pain he suffers, Kevin came into contact with the NHS Community Pain Service who inspired him to build the Dalek. He now is one of the volunteers running Pain Clinic Plus, busy inspiring others.
