Now people may begin to understand the predicament of Mr Crook in Banks who has installed gates and ditches to STOP the dogs from running wild on his land. The dogs should be on leads - the owners of the dogs should be aware of where they are walking whether public or private land. The reported incident, is a prime example following on from the dispute in Banks on what can happen - the owners are to blame.

This really is absolutely nothing to do with path ways and fences, its to do with dogs that have been kept chained for many hours, teased and distressed by free passing people/horses etc,and escaped and killed, perhaps if the dogs were walked and trained REGULARLY ALONG THE PATHS ,instead of spending all day bored barking at passing traffic ,then perhaps they would have not run/attacked,dogs run off because they are bored & unexersized most of time ,so sorry I think your analogy of the situation is wrong, don't use this as a scapegoat for the current mister meaners.I and many others walk the area for years and have never seen these dogs out walking, and are led to belive they escaped.

Love it when the excusists and apologists climb on the wagon.

I have issues with dog walkers (not cleaning up etc), but this is not the same area under dispute with Crook and his cohorts, the ground he is trying to close off is for purpose of setting up a shoot.

In this instance it would appear that the dogs in question are very much local dogs and nothing whatsoever to do with dog walkers.

It never fails to amaze me the idiotic comments on here that people say without knowing the facts.
    1. The owner of the dogs is a responsible animal owner who cares for her animals at the highest degree.
    2. The dog is usually chained up during the day as it is a guard dog.
    3. The dogs should never been loose especially the Alsation, the whole thing was an unfortunate incident for everyone involved.
Hopefully it won`t happen again with anyone elses dogs or sheep.

Is she was a responsible dog owner she would have trained her dog to leave farm animals alone when it was a puppy. You are meant to introduce young animals to sheep and cattle so they don't over-react if they ever encounter them by accident !

The dog not only mauled the animals - it ate some of them ! Is that the action of a well trained, well cared for dog ??? Plus if it was a guard dog why would it leave the area it was meant to be guarding if it was so well trained !!

whats everybody making a mountain out of a mole hill for?the dogs could have escaped without the owner knowing so why prosecute him!!anyway its ashame the dogs were shot, even though dogs do nothing but bark and make your house stink, would farmer giles still have shot them if they hadn't eaten marys little lamb?if i had a dog and a farmer shot mine the farmer would have got a slap.I own my back garden but can't shhot any old knob.

As the dogs were attacking the sheep and had killed some I think the farmer was well within his rights to shoot the dogs.

Would YOU try to wrestle a dog in 'kill/eat frenzy'. I know that I wouldn't. It could well have been the Farmer being 'mauled' if he had tried to stand between the dog and the potential kill!

Farmers have long had the right to shoot dogs if atacking farm animals, I am aware that some abused that right, particularly gamekeepers, but hardly a shame that the dogs were shot and of course dogs are the owners responsibility, end of.

What utter trash, that dog has intimidated people for years,it shouldn't be caged and chained at all,a proper guard dog will bark if there is a disturbance on its own property, not at every single movement on the road that passes,or a noise miles away.Everyone I know has seen and heard that dog for years,ITS WRONG ,and hasn't that dog already attacked and nearly killed a dog before ?,and that's not to mention the noise all day...funny how when something happens someone trys to colour in the mistakes. The dog showed neurotic ''I want to kill behaviour ,which by the way is illegal .
