Detectives are appealing for information following an aggravated burglary in Southport last night, Thursday 13 December.

At around 7pm, three unknown males forced entry to a flat in Zetland Street and assaulted two men in their 30s, who received minor stab wounds. Forensic, house-to-house and CCTV enquiries are ongoing at the location.

Detective Inspector Gary Stratton said: "We initially believe that this was a targeted attack against the occupants, and in these early stages of the investigation we are looking to establish exactly what happened. Thankfully the victims only sustained minor injuries, but this would have been a distressing incident to experience or witness. Officers will be in the area today gathering information and offering reassurance to the community.

"Were you in the Zetland Street area around 7pm last night and saw or heard anything, or have home CCTV or dashcam footage passing by? Have a look and let us know, as it may be vital in finding those responsible and bringing them to justice. There is no place for knife crime on our streets and we will continue to pursue and prosecute those who choose to carry and use dangerous weapons. Give us the information and we will do the rest."
