Merseyside Police detectives are appealing for information after an armed robbery at a post office in Bootle, this morning (Monday, 18 September 2017).
At around 10.22am, a call was received of an armed robbery in progress at a post office on Stanley Road, Bootle. Two men are believed to have taken a cash box by force from the delivery driver of a red liveried Mercedes Sprinter Post Office vehicle, the driver was threatened with a knife but not injured.
Witness and CCTV enquiries are ongoing and detectives wish to speak to anyone who saw two men acting suspiciously around Stanley Road, before or after 10.22am to get in touch. The men are believed to have driven off in a white Volkswagen Transporter Van down Wadham Road, onto Kings Road, heading towards the train station.
The description of the male who seized the cash box is that he was a white man, stocky build, approximately 5ft 8in tall, aged mid to late twenties, wearing a dark jacket, black tracksuit bottoms and dark trainers. He had a Liverpool accent. The second man, who assisted the offender, is described as white, of thin build, 5ft 10in tall and dressed in black clothing. Each male used scarves and their hoods to conceal their faces.
Detective Inspector Tony O’Brien said: "These types of incidents are thankfully rare in the area and I would appeal to anyone with information to contact us immediately, to identify and remove these people from the streets. Thankfully the delivery driver was not injured but he is understandably extremely shaken and to be threatened in such a way is despicable and desperate behaviour.
"The victims are being supported by officers and I would urge anyone with any information, however small, to call us as it may be vital for our investigation.
"I want to assure all residents and businesses that we will do everything possible to identify the offenders and bring them to justice, and ensure that Bootle continues to be a safe place to live, work and visit."
Anyone with information is asked to call 101. You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously and for free on 0800 555 111 or via their online form: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-in...rmation-online.
