It is, along with the rest as they need to be able to get an average. People are upset as there is no way of getting around these type of cameras. A million time better at actually slowing down traffic. Rather than making them brake for one spot.

If the speed limit is 50 mph then traffic can use both lanes. Have you never been on a motorway during roadworks when the speed is reduced and all lanes are doing the same speed because of the cameras ? I don't recall everyone driving in single file do you ?

Well if that's you argument, you might as well just install average speed cameras from John O' Groats all the way down to Lands End.

Ceam seems like a crashing nannyish bore. It is sad that we're apparently ruled by "road safety" berks like this whose chums, without any consultation (or, at best, fake consultations) impose silly low speed limits on a major straight and unimpeded A road to the inconvenience of the general public. All in aid of scalping sensible drivers for extra unnecessary fines.

Would it have been safer, and cheaper to install a roundabout at the Blackgate Lane junction, and closed off the gap between Moss Hey Lane, where it crosses the A565,as that IS where most accidents are more likely to happen, with the slowing down of vehicles attempting to cross over the By-Pass,as MORE incidents have happened there since the introduction of SINGLE LANE on a busy By-Pass.

Ironic isn't it that more accidents have occurred at that one spot since the safety measures were implemented than previously, my own theory is that most drivers were well aware that they were joining a high speed dual carriageway, now we have a 50 mph limit and the single lane, which frankly if someone misjudges/makes an error, there is no where to go to take avoiding action.

The Police are not interested in road safety. Its all about the income generation.

Really? Drive as fast as you want up to 50 mph and it won't cost you 1p

It would've been cheaper for everyone if the clowns who can't drive properly had listened when they were having lessons. As I've said on here many times, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the road at Moss Hey Lane - it's the ****less idiots trying to cross the junction without using any common sense who are to blame for all this. I use that junction several times daily and I've seen the results of plenty of accidents caused by drivers who simply refuse to use the road correctly. Over the years, the consequences of this stupidity have been the roundabout at Mere Brow, the lane reductions between Hunters Lane & Moss Hey Lane, the speed reduction from Richmond Hill Farm to Blackgate Lane and finally they've resorted to ASC for the entire length between Gravel Lane and Blackgate Lane.
The numbers on the signs are limits - not targets. Maybe if this was understood more, there wouldn't be so many accidents. In the meantime, I would suggest to anyone with cruise control/speed limiters fitted to their vehicles that they get used to using them - they may well save the embarrassment of receiving a brown envelope...

That is probably what will happen, either that or every vehicle will be fitted with a hitech speed limiter to ensure speed limits are adhered to.

Getting people to stick to the 70mph would have been a good start.
That was tried using the Mobile Camera van and Police monitoring.

Fitting vehicles with hi tech speed limiters will never, ever happen. The whole point of reducing speed limits, and installing average speed cameras is to raise revenue. If Government and Councils were really serious about road safety, they'd do something about the state of the roads which in some cases are death traps and stop things like double parking, leaving space for only one vehicle to drive between them, making it almost impossible to see pedestrians step out into the road.

My car has both a speed limiter and cruise control as do most modern vehicles!

Safe2travel advise that the cameras are still being tested. They will ensure there is media coverage when they go live. They won't tell me whether drivers will be penalised more than once if they speed through all 4 cameras on the same journey (potential for multiple offences). I don't plan to test this but does anyone know what could happen penalty-wise if someone drove at, say, 60mph from Banks to Tarleton?
My earlier prediction that vehicles will bunch up in the inside lane is already being proved right. People simply don't know how to deal with the slow limit, they aren't using both lanes as most feel obliged to overtake if they move to the 'overtaking lane' to avoid getting close to the car in front.
Oh well, at least we can look forward to the funds being reinvested In carriageway repairs saving wear & tear on our vehicles.

Good to see they’re having an impact on safety within days of going live – there was a 3 car smash at the A565, Moss Hey Lane junction on Wednesday afternoon. One if the cars (a Honda) was upside down. Just think how bad it could have been if the safety cameras hadn’t been there.
