Ahead of the Emirates FA Cup second round replay, the Port suffered their first defeat since October against Solihull in the Buildbase FA Trophy on Saturday and will hope to turn things around quickly.

Like Southport, Tranmere are also entering this match on the back of the defeat, as their climb up the League Two table was halted by a 3-2 defeat against strugglers Notts County.

Rovers had got themselves back into the game on two occasions, after falling behind in the 33rd minute and then just before half-time.

Unfortunately they were unable to recover a third time as a 76th minute Jon Stead penalty condemned them to defeat and saw them slip out the playoff spots on goal difference back down to eighth.

Meanwhile there was only one goal in Southport’s first defeat in eleven, as a single Murphy strike was enough to see them knocked out the trophy.

Liam Watson will be hoping his side will not be out of two competitions in three days.

The prize of having Premier League visitors is something that’ll have both clubs excited.

Not only is it honour enough to make the third round, but it’ll be a chance to host both international and England stars.

The likes of Harry Kane who was captaining England in a World Cup semi-final in the summer could very well be 90 minutes from a visit to the Merseyrail Community Stadium. From Russia with love to Southport!

Tranmere will equally want that pleasure and both teams are guaranteed to give everything. Rovers may be two divisions higher but Southport have already matched them at Prenton Park and anything can happen in the best cup competition in the world.

A reminder the fixture is a sell out, but is being broadcast live on BT Sport for those unable to attend in person.

Turnstiles will be open at the ground from 6pm.
