On Friday, Damien spent time with pupils in the Brilliant Club at Birkdale High School. The club, which is part of a network of more than ten thousand students across England and Wales, encourages those from disadvantaged backgrounds to go to university. Pupils work together in groups and are inspired to love learning.
Damien said: ‘I really enjoyed my time with the Brilliant Club. As one of the first few in my family to go to university, I understand the work they're doing is incredibly important. It's great that Birkdale is part of this project.’

Where has the "disadvantaged backgrounds" come from?
I know it must be from a press release, but we are certainly not disadvantaged.
In 14-15 we worked with over 400 schools and colleges across the country, placing over 350 PhD tutors to work with more than 8,000 pupils. We worked closely with our partner universities in order to host trips and recruit PhD Tutors. Our vision is an education system in
which young people from non-selective state schools and other low participation backgrounds are proportionately represented at highly selective universities. To this end, we aim to build effective, lasting and meaningful links between schools and universities that are underpinned by excellent teaching and learning, and by positive action to widen access to top universities.
No mention of disadvantaged there. Highlighted bit is as close as it gets. Maybe they would like to re word their press release.
