PARKING IN SOUTHPORT FOR GENUINE BLUE BADGE HOLDERS.
Email sent to Qlocal from disabled man.
I received a parking ticket two weeks ago whilst visiting a restaurant with clients. I took ill and went home leaving my car overnight. I forgot to leave my badge on display. I was given a ticket.
My wife emailed the council showing copy of badge and explained circumstances.
I have received a letter stating and I quote " I have fully considered your case and the information you have provided however based on the fact your husband was with three other passengers ( never stated that they were passengers) I do not think this mitigates the contravention and based on the above it is my decision not to cancel the notice on these grounds".
Really!
1. Why?
2. Based on her opinion!
3. Contravention of my human rights. Disabled?
4. Cost. Fine £25. Why you say am I creating a fuss.
Could go on for hours but!
I nor any other member of my family shall shop or eat ever again in Sefton MBC.
They are killing Southport.
I do hope businesses in Southport read this.
I shall challenge this no matter what cost as a point of principle.
This is not a rant. This is why we are in trouble with narrow minded individuals who make personal representations and judgements.
It is a disgrace for SOUTHPORT.
THIS WILL COST IN LOST REVENUE THOUSANDS OVER THE NEXT MONTHS TO RESTAURANTS ETC IN SOUTHPORT.

not the only one , was talking about this the other night with some friends and Ormskirk & Formby are also in a similar state of decay , and everyone is shopping out of town now at the various new stores , or going online shopping , why ?, because of the parking charges ? , yes it is part of the problem because people are already spending time and fuel to get into town and then being hit with more charges , and stay just a bit toooo long or misread the rules , ticket !!! , the vultures were out this morning at the Crosby car park ... it was nearly empty , really in need of controlled parking .. not

Waiting for the day that someone buys a ticket, it blows into the road as not sticky, gets fined £80 for litter and £60 for not displaying a ticket. Welcome to Sefton, or parts of Sefton where easy money can be made

I am disabled and the handbook that comes with a blue badge clearly states you must display it! It takes less than 1 minute to put it on the dash board. I too have had a ticket when I forgot to display my badge, as I said when I rang to pay the charge, my fault so can't complain, so sorry it is a rant.

"I forgot to leave my badge on display."
Should read,
" I've been a prick and now I'm going to have a moan."
No argument to fight with then. Pay up and stop whinging, even if you had left the badge it only gives you 3 hours anyway. A hole, gives blue badge users a bad name.

Surely if he didn't put the badge on display he didn't actually need it on this occasion ?
As such he should have paid and displayed !

Commit the crime,pay the fine..Simples.
On another issue of getting a Penalty Charge ticket,do people NOT read the signs on the Hackney Ranks in Southport,as there ARE plenty of warning signs, especially on the Lord Street rank ? It has signs stating that "Parking from 06.00am to 20.00pm" and then "After 20.00pm to 06.00am this is used as a Taxi rank Only" but people still leave their vehicles on them, and then they come back 2 to 4 hours later, see a Red envelope stuck on the windscreen, with Penalty Charge enclosed, and then have a rant with the Hackney Officials, and drivers,as to why they have received a ticket...Mad.
There were at least 7 vehicles tonight which received a ticket for parking on the ranks, one still there at 03.00am,the driver and passengers obviously enjoyed their visit to the town....Not.
There is a Sefton Licensing vehicle operating up to around 01.00am with officials issuing these tickets, and they are NOT the usual Enforcement officials which patrol up to about 19.00pm,if people were wondering who issues the tickets.

Looking at the reply received by the OP when the fine was appealed against, what is it about having passengers that makes a difference?

The offence is failure to correctly display a ticket to park. So the driver has Blue Badge which in Sefton would allow them to park in a Parking bay indefinitely & they didn't display so they got a ticket. Regardless of falling ill they are eligible for a Parking ticket & the Council are with in their rights to uphold the fine.
Tough, pay & display or be fined. Southport is one of the cheapest places to park that I've been to & while the Council might treat Parking as a revenue stream in this case the Attendant did everything correctly.

If the Driver had passengers it is assumed one of them could have driven the Car away?
It doesn't work like that in real life as there may be a multitude of reasons that others might not be able to driver the owners car.

One of them could have at least returned to car to make sure the badge was on display.
Presumably the photo illustrating the article isn't of the actual incident being reported. Seems unlikely that someone would be on hand to take a photo of the ticket being issued.

That's a stock photograph that Roving eye takes out of the drawer every time he reports a parking issue.
