The Botanic Gardens is touted as "Southport's Jewel In The Crown"

Since the Council cutbacks many of the the flower beds have been looked after by a group of dedicated volunteers. They have done a wonderful job.

Other parts of the park are looked after by the Council and these areas are a disgrace with weeds and nettles choking the flowers.

Local residents are disgusted that the Council can allow one of the most popular places in Southport to become so run down.

Something needs to be done before its too late.

It is a great pity that the Council have cut back on Gardeners.

There is a band of volunteers who do a great job, but as they have lives beyond Botanic Gardens they cannot be expected to work there constantly.

We really need to make our voices heard in Sefton and insist that full time gardeners are employed, to keep Southport (not just Botanic Gardens) beautiful.

We can all dispute where or how the Council spends our money, but ultimately central government still holds the purse strings.
