Southport's over zealous parking attendants now have a new string to their bow.

Some of them are now able to fine people who drop litter in the street.

Although littering is anti social these CEO's only appear to target the very young, very elderly or vulnerable people.

Two teenage girl students were fined this afternoon on the corner on Mornington Road for dropping litter. The girls seemed visibly upset by their ordeal.

Lets hope that the CEO's will be as conscientious on the 12th of July.

If they hadn't dropped litter it wouldn't be an issue...

Re the 12th of July, I get what you're saying, it's boring now, are you seriously expecting them to stop people en masse...a dynamic risk assessment plus the fact that the streets are cleaned that night would say no.

We can't have laws that are enforced for some people and then ignored for others.

Yes I agree, but in truth the majority of CEO's do seem to have a big yellow streak down their backs.

Unless of course unless you are a traveller or Orange Day parader, then you are exempt.

Does that really matter? Are you saying all the above is O.K. because others do it. Or do you think people should just act responsible and take account of their own actions.

People have enough spare carrier bags now, with most shops selling them for 5p each when a person goes shopping etc, just carry one of them with you when you go out,and put any litter you get into it,and when you want to dispose of it,put it into the nearest litter bin....................Simples................Just an idea for when a person did go out in the town,as the streets would be a lot cleaner if they did use a carrier bag for their litter.

Similar to a dog walker who HAS to carry a poop bag for their dog,for when it does its business while out on the streets.

All the keyboard warriors on here make me laugh - you'll even have a few of them coming on here vigorously asserting that they would most certainly ticket the Orange Lodgers and Travellers if it was their job.
Unfounded statements are made on here about Litter FPN's, and whom they are issued to - those who are so obviously certain only kids and the vulnerable are targeted should perhaps make a FOI request. Ask for the demographic of those ticketed for litter.

No littering is not acceptable, but one law for some and not for others is equally not acceptable, certainly people should be responsible for their activities whether in groups or individually, how to achieve this is the real question.

When it comes to parades or marches, make the otganisers responsible for clearing up, travellers, keep them travelling, councils should have the authority to move them on as soon as they arrive.

At last (2nd paragraph in particular) - some reasoned, sensible comments.
My thoughts on marches are that the LA treat any organised event in the same way, i.e. pay for your Policing and extra clear up costs.
Travellers are a separate issue, whether the disgruntled and indignant on here like or not there is no political will to deal with them and, there's always that classic fall back position of yooman rites.

Orange Day parade like every other public event creates rubbish. But hopefully also creates income for local business.
Travelers are a different issue, if you can't see the waste in public money trying to chase £60 from a traveler with no fixed abode, then you need your head testing.
Why do we have to work to the lowest common denominator?

Locals dropping litter are just lazy poorly brought up individuals. I never drop litter, neither do my kids and if they did and got a fine, they better keep it quite from me as I won't be fighting their corner.
