I am writing to you in my capacity as Deputy Chairman (Political) of the Southport Conservative Association.

My attention has been drawn to the fact that Councillor David Barton has been contacting various groups and organisations and has given the impression that he is doing so on behalf of the Party.

The latest example appears to be Southport Indoor Market where he was observed with a folder/clip board which clearly showed Conservative Party material.

I therefore have to make it clear that Councillor Barton is no longer a Conservative Councillor as he has been suspended from the Conservative Party.

He has also been advised by the Party that he is not on the approved list for potential Conservative Council candidates for the elections in May 2018 when his current term of office expires.

The reasons for his suspension have been reported previously in your news outlet.
