West Lancashire Borough Council is working to ensure that the public toilets on Church Road in Tarleton can re-open as soon as possible after they were targeted by vandals a number of times.
The latest incident took place overnight on Monday 3 December when the door of the disabled toilet was kicked in and the lock damaged.
All three toilets, which are managed by the Council, are currently closed. The ladies has been shut when youths tried to set fire to it. The men's remained open after the washbasin was smashed in, but further damage was caused last weekend and this has also been closed.
The vandalism has been reported to the police and CCTV footage from the Council's cameras has been provided to help aid the investigation.
The Council understands this is not an isolated matter. There is an ongoing police investigation regarding criminal damage to the toilets and other anti-social behaviour in the area.
Councillor Ian Moran, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council, said: "The Council understands the importance of this facility to local people but has been forced to close it due to this spate of vandalism. We are working with police to help try and catch the people responsible and we hope to re-open the toilets very soon."
If anyone has any information regarding this incident please contact the police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
