A cut in beer duty would reinvigorate pubs in our communities, argues MP Damien Moore.
Writing to the Chancellor, Philip Hammond, Damien recommended the Treasury make this tax cut.
‘In the Autumn Budget last year, you announced that tax on beer, cider, wine, and spirits was to be frozen for the second year in a row. Before this, beer duty had been cut by 1p per year...I write to urge you to announce that the government will move back to a position of cutting beer duty’.
Damien adds: ‘We welcome hundreds of thousands of tourists to our town. One of the many terrific things that attracts them is our bars and pubs - some of them supplied by innovative local breweries.
‘Cutting beer duty would help them serve our town’s many guests, as well as enrich the lives of those who find a feeling of community in their locals.’

Beer is one of the most damaging products to the liver and kidneys and, together with other alcoholic products, causes untold damage to family life, on the roads and elsewhere.
To be taken in strict moderation. A price increase would be far better for us, never mind a price reduction.
There are many non-alcoholic drinks far more tasty and a lot cheaper than beer which can actually give us better health, much better than destroying our vital organs and shortening our lives.

"Far more tasty" is your opinion.
"A lot cheaper than beer" is simply not true. If you take something like J2O, the price per pint works out at around £5, and there's no alcohol duty, so it's an absolute rip-off.
And carbonated drinks, even the 'zero sugar' ones, can be harmful to health - do a bit of research into citric acid and phosphoric acid - these are more damaging to teeth than sugar. Even carbonated water is damaging to tooth enamel.

Another silly self promoting 'look kids, I'm still here' thread.
Does he really believe that, even if the insanely far fetched happened and, duty was cut by10p that punters would be spilling out of the door deliriously celebrating the saving of 40p, 80p a quid even.
Somehow I don't think this is the panacea the pubs are waiting for.

Oh, no! I go to bed ¼ hour before at 6.45 after I've put the cat out and listen to it as a late night treat with a cup of cocoa and my arthritis tablet.
