Southport would be part of Lancashire again if the Boundary Commission's changes were approved. How do you feel about this? Click the link and tell me.

Do you feel constituency boundaries should reflect local geography and local ties?

The independent Boundary Commission has recommended changes to our constituency. Southport would include Banks, Tarleton, and Hesketh Bank. Before the full recommendations can happen, MPs need to approve them. I want to know your views on our new, bigger Southport constituency.

Utterly pointless even considering this to be possible until you have the backing of ALL of the councillors on Sefton council ( and the principal officers based upon the non-political propaganda they have created in the past).
The last time that anybody tried to get to get Southport out of Sefton was way back (2003?) when an attempt was made to add an additional item towards seeking independence to an ALREADY scheduled local referendum on the future of local area committees in Southport.
EVERY ONE of the LibDems, Labour AND Tory parties voted AGAINST this proposal.
The only chance of getting out of Sefton now is for us to make a unilateral declaration of independence unless, of course, the PM imposes the necessary legislation herself.

Changes to the constituency boundaries do not alter council or county boundaries.
Southport would be no more & no less Lancastrian than it is.

As I am all but computer illiterate I just wish someone would superimpose a speech bubble on that cheesy grin saying - been miss-sold PPI or had an accident at work?

Terrible idea I'm sixty soon and want my bus pass. Anybody aged 60 to 66 wouldn't get one in Lancashire. That will be the next idea.

West Lancs Borough Council is currently within the Lancashire transport area so this statement is, currently, an accurate statement of the current state of affairs, so I believe.
If Southport were to separate from Sefton and amalgamate with WLBC then that the area would become either a Metropolitan District or a Unitary Authority, rather than a Lancashire district subservient to Lancashire County Council. It would then be entitled to decide which transport area it wished to be part of which would be covered by appropriate legislation.
Given the political angle on this I doubt if it will ever get past the stage it's been at since 1st April 1974 when the Southport Conservatives decided we should become part of a Merseyside Metropolitan District rather than a district with the area covered by the Lancashire County Council.

    He's misleading you.
This is nothing to do with Southport leaving Sefton.
It's about adding Banks etc to the Southport parliamentary constituency.
Southport would still be in Sefton and Merseyside.
Banks would still be in West Lancs.

Pensioners do get free bus travel in Lancashire during off peak hours, and reduced price rail fares. In general, Council tax is less in Lancashire. There is also more consideration given to the environment - Parks and leisure areas are well looked after, as are historical buildings. There is also more thought given with regard to the location of new building projects.

I would like to see Southport as Independent and managed by those who are actually capable of managing the town and would benefit from its prosperity, as opposed to those who seek personal gratification both socially and financially. If this is not possible, then Southport would be potentially better off under Lancashire, than being totally ignored as it is now. It most certainly could not be any worse off.

Typical BS, boundary changes will not change county areas, contrary to what many imagine Southport, Liverpool, Manchester and surrounding areas are still part of Lancashire, when it comes to local authority or constituency areas does anyone believe that the general public will have any say in the matter?

For instance will anyone ask the opinions of the residents of Banks or even Hesketh Bank and Tarleton if they wish to become part of Southport constituency and possibly by default part of Sefton Council area.

Rather incomprehensible that a constituency MP should find themselves attempting to represent the electorate in two local authority areas each independent from the other.

Southport has always been part of Lancashire, but under the boundaries we come under Sefton, Merseyside. Southport has far more connection with Tarleton, Banks etc., than it ever has with Liverpool.

Do you feel constituency boundaries should reflect local geography and local ties? Most definitely - North Sefton people are of a totally different social society to those South of Formby.

Frightening to think that the whole political spectrum depends on you getting a bus pass

Not just me but the thousands of people aged 60 to 66 who would not get or lose passes. What would that do for the town centre £4.40 return fare who can pay that on a regular basis? What about the freedom this age group get to travel on trains as far as Chester, would you take that away to be part of an enormous county that would care little for us in a far flung outpost.
