On Friday, March 9th, Damien Moore MP visited the Southport Foodbank.
The foodbank plays an important role in our community ensuring that no one should go hungry, providing emergency food and support to residents in crisis. Southport Foodbank is part of a nationwide network supported by The Trussell Trust which aims to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
During his visit to the Southport branch, Damien saw the operations and met with volunteers, trustees and the Foodbank’s manager John as well as members from the Money Advice and Welfare Benefits teams.
Speaking about his visit Damien said:
“I'm proud of the work that Southport Foodbank is doing to combat poverty and hunger in our local community. I'm impressed with their diligence and effort to make a difference in the lives of those who need assistance."

Certainly the last Labour Government in 2008 ordered Job Centres to stop referring clients in need to foodbanks.
However I'm not sure that Labour were successful in their attempt to shut them all down.

But what is Damien doing to combat those things? Nothing.

I'm well into my 5th decade on this planet and I grew up in a time when we didn't have much but my parents knew were their priorities lay. Those priorities were rent, food, coal/gas/electricity and warm clothes. Everything else was a luxury and if there was no spare cash you didn't have it.
In today's 'must have it now and I don't care how I get it' society the whole thing is turned on it's head. I know this because I've seen it with my own eyes when donating - I don't judge I merely observe - there but for the grace of god etc.
I observe people turning up in cars - do they fuel themselves? I see people smoking - how much is the going rate for a pck of 20 - a tenner? I see people with the latest smart phones clasped in the death grip associated with owning the damn things - do they buy themselves and put credit on themselves?
As I say - I'm merely observing but it seems to me plenty have misplaced priorities.
Finally I do wish people would extricate themselves out of the class war mire.
Neither side of the political divide have covered themselves in glory when pouring petrol on the flames of individual fiscal ****lessness.
Labour presided over the biggest funny money, borrow today never pay it back fiasco since the great depression (Northern Rock et-al).
The Conservatives are no better with the gazillion% payday loan market which has flourished under their watch.
It is an uncomfortable truth but, if you provide the financially inadequate with a bonanza of never never, then don't be surprised if temptation encourages the wrong choices.

The letter was a joke. Not a particularly good one admittedly. It's tradition for outgoing Treasury ministers to leave a humorous note for their successors.
If there was no money left how come the Conservatives have managed to spend more and more of it?
A nation that issues its own currency can never run out of it.

Your sense of humour is as funny as your party line and your understanding of currency is equally amusing.

What about the "Austerity" that we keep hearing people on here complain about. By definition the spending of the post labour governments must be lower otherwise it wouldn't be Austerity.
