Illegal drivers in and around west Lancashire will be in for nasty shock soon...

This DVLA enforcement van was parked up from 8am yesterday morning as it logged every banned driver and untaxed, uninsured and untested vehicles which passed it near the busy Ringtail roundabout on the A59 at Burscough.

Lookout for that buff envelope from the DVLA soon if you drive without any regard for the rules of the road!

how do they know who was driving the vehicle? All that does is register the number plate.

Untaxed & untested yes, but banned and no insurance!

I can drive any car on my insurance so if I'm driving but not the registered keeper the car is still been driven by an insured driver, likewise the registered keeper maybe be banned but I'm not and if I'm driving no offence has been committed!

Surely you are only insured to drive any other vehicle if it to is insured in the first place?

Quite so - it's a common misconception that having a fully comprehensive policy entitles you 3rd party cover when driving another vehicle. that vehicle must already have a valid policy for this to be so. Another exclusion which can catch people out is 'under 25's'.

Correct, so many have this misconception that their insurance covers them to drive any car at any time, there are of course block policies,but these are almost always company or motor trade policies.

TBH exactly what I thought, I could drive say my neighbours car on my insurance 3rd party.

Can I drive other cars?
Yes, provided you meet the following criteria:

• You're the main driver and policy holder.
• You're aged 25 years from the start date or last renewal date of your policy.
• You don't own the car, and don't have it on hire purchase.
• You have the owner's express consent to drive the vehicle.
• You still have your vehicle, and it isn't damaged beyond cost effective repair.
• The vehicle is under 13 years old, worth £70,000 or less and doesn't have significant modifications unless they were fitted from new and declared in the car's value, or were not made because of a disability.

And remember:

• You'll be covered for third party cover only.
• You do not need a cover note from us - your insurance certificate is good enough!

Psh - there is a breakdown truck been parked in Shakespeare Street for well over a year that is registered as SORN - yet it is illegally parked on the public highway. It has been reported to the DVLA countless times as it blocks the road due to it being a large vehicle. Have they ever done anything about it ........no !

I'm not sure but i think breakdown trucks have different rules,maybe someone who drives one will know.

The breakdown truck may be on Trade Plates.
