The two dogs who were severely injured in a horrific axe attack by their owner are now safely in the care of Freshfields Animal Rescue in Liverpool.

Neo and Santos are two Staffordshire bull terriers who were attacked by their owner with an axe in December last year. The dogs have been in police kennels for six months, following the owner’s arrest and prosecution.

    Dawn Hurst, Operations Manager, said:

‘The police contacted Freshfields for help as the dogs were now ready to be rehomed. We were only too glad to respond. We have been graduallly getting to know Neo and Santos, and showing them the gentleness and compassion that they need. They are doing well despite their shocking ordeal, and are very friendly, happy dogs with great personalities. We cannot begin to comprehend why someone would inflict such a deliberate act of cruelty upon these defenceless animals.

We are, as always, grateful to the local community for their vigilance and for their faith in Freshfields as we now begin the search for a loving, forever home for Neo and Santos. We have a rehabilitation and rehoming plan in place, and we will keep you posted on their progress’.
