A 33 year old female from the Woodvale area has been arrested on suspicion of attempted wounding following an incident on Sandbrook Road which occurred on Wednesday evening.
Merseyside Police is investigating after reports of an assault and criminal damage in Southport yesterday, Wednesday 7 February.
At around 7.15pm, a report was received of a woman throwing a liquid at a man near to shops on Sandbrook Road. Damage was also caused to a window on Shirdley Crescent. Emergency services attended and the substance was identified by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) as bleach, resulting in minor injuries. This has been confirmed as household bleach as opposed to any form of acid.
Enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible.
Detective Chief Inspector Gayle Rooney said: "I want to reassure the community that this appears to be an isolated, domestic incident targeting the victim, who was thankfully not seriously injured, but is understandably shocked.
"It is alarming to see such a substance used in such a callous way and we are supporting the victim and are keen to speak to anyone who saw this incident or has any information. We will act on all information provided and ensure that those responsible are removed from the streets and put before the courts."
Anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC, call 101 quoting incident number 18200032837, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. You can also use their online form anonymously: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-in...rmation-online.
Its a corrosive substance and some bleaches are acids, life sentences will be given to those who carry out acid attacks, even if they miss their target or their victim escapes serious injury, Alison Saunders director of Public Prosecutions said .

Why should she be treated any differently ?
Bleach can be corrosive - but it is an Alkaline, accepts does not donate hydrogen! Wet concrete is also corrosive and an alkaline.

I look forward to the mitigation plea which no doubt will make many references to hormones and or unsubstantiated allegations of dreadful behaviour on the part of the victim prior to the incident.

Well, I understand that the victim was walking with the aid of crutches at the time of the incident and it was not a domestic incident as reported by the police.
Sounds like the police are trying to play down this very serious incident, bleach can have a serious effect on someone's vision as an acid can.
I hope the authorities throw the book at her and if and when convicted throw her behind bars for a very long time.
It's not just the physiological damage, the psychological damage will be just as distressing to the victim.
