The first section of black tarmac has been laid on Lord Street today. After being red for generations and part of the towns heritage Sefton Council have not listened to local Councillors who wanted it to stay red.

The works are expected to take up to six weeks to complete.

Good. Sooner the work is completed the better.

    Time to move on.

I hope it lasts longer than most of the resurfacing done around the town in the last few years.

I bet they find some red for bus stops and cycle areas though

That looks so drab for our town centre! Let that be a reminder to all the locals - Labour's slap in the Face - remember that at the local elections! Southport is said to have raised £14million last year - has all that gone into the joint pot without anything being awarded to Southport?

    **** sefton off

  8. JAZIAN says:22/09/2017 07:52 PM
Of course it's all the fault of those nasty Labour councillors. Nothing at all to do with the nice Tory politicians who have cut Sefton’s budget by over 50%.
Vote Tory and this is what you get.

Red, black, green or pink, what matters is that the job is done properly and that is something that contractors Dowhigh have failed to do in recent years.

Absolutely. So long as the job is done properly and lasts who cares what colour it is.

How dreary it looks, as if grey, grey Chapel St weren't depressing enough!
Such a shame. The total that Southport people must contribute in council tax too is mind boggling. No wonder they allow big, old houses with land, to be demolished and blocks of flats built - so much more council tax to be collected. In the whole scheme of things, the extra needed for a red surface would have been peanuts!

I think 'Green' would have been nice, good for the environment.

Yes but it would have had to come out of another budget, what did you have in mind - Care, Schools, Social Services era

What do I have in mind? Southport out of Sefton!

Just out of curiosity when was the red tarmac first laid on Lord Street and did the good townsfolk of Southport object to it?

  16. chrismatt. says:23/09/2017 07:11 PM
I dont know when the red tarmac was put down.

But I do know that Sefton Council removed it in September 2017!
