Galloway’s Society for the Blind - one of Lancashire’s oldest charities – has refreshed its brand and embarked on a communications campaign to reflect the full range of services the charity provides in local communities.
Earlier this year a donor gifted Galloway’s with a sum of money to say thank you for the role the charity had played in their family life. The aim of the donation was for it to be used specifically to help build awareness of Galloway’s – both in terms of services and accessing them, and how people can get involved in supporting and volunteering.
Established in Preston, the charity has been supporting people with sight loss for nearly 150 years. Today, the charity supports over 7,000 people every year and offers support across Lancashire and Sefton.
The first stage of the work reviewed the overall Galloway’s brand – looking at the different groups of people the charity need to be in touch with, and how and what the name and logo say about the charity.
The newly refreshed Galloway’s logo, unveiled in October 2016, is still reminiscent of the original with a modernised, fresh approach.
Stuart Clayton, Chief Executive at Galloway’s said of the new look;
“While we will always be called Galloway’s Society for the Blind formally, the text on our new logo will read “support through sight loss”, rather than “society for the blind”. We feel this better indicates the work we do as a charity and will encourage more people who are starting to experience sight loss, to know that we are there to offer support, at the point of diagnosis and going forward into the sight loss journey.”
Galloway’s aims to create positive change for blind and partially sighted people, giving them the same opportunities that the sighted world can often take for granted.
The new branding will be phased in across Galloway’s. It will also be used at the new Victoria Street site in Morecambe and will be introduced in the charity’s other centres over the coming months.
The charity will also be rolling out a communications plan, highlighting the importance of eye health, the need for early reach in diagnosis of eye conditions and links to the support that Galloway’s offers – reducing isolation and helping people undertake pursuits they have previously enjoyed – while showcasing the ways in which people, organisations and companies can get involved with Galloway’s.
Unlike many other charities, Galloway’s is not a high turnover charity. Sight loss is a life-long diagnosis and Galloway’s provides support from the point of diagnosis for the whole of the sight loss journey, which in some cases is 30 years or more.
