Get your place at the starting line this Bank Holiday at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre.

On your marks, get set, go…………. WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre is making a splash this bank holiday weekend with the fourth annual plastic duck race on Monday 1 May at 3pm.

All April, children have been coming in their droves to paint a plastic duck to enter into the popular duck race over the bank holiday. But don’t worry if you didn’t paint a duck over the Easter holidays, you can buy one on the day for £2, quickly decorate it before 2.30pm to enter the race. The winning ducks will receive vouchers to spend in the Martin Mere retail shop.

Nick Brooks, Centre Manager at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre said: “We are delighted that the duck race is taking place at Martin Mere once again this year, last year was an incredible event for the centre and we hope that this year will be even better.”
He added: “Last year there was nearly 200 ducks taking part in the race with a great variety of colours and designs on show. There was much drama in last year’s event with one duck streaming into the lead, only to drift into a ditch and trapping five others to allow a duck sail from behind into an uncatchable lead.”

Additional bank holiday activities includes morning and afternoon sessions of pond dipping to see which creatures are lurking in the ponds, grab your paddle and take to the water on our canoe safari and boat tours, build a den out of conifer, watch our family of otters feed, splash and dash in our adventure play area that features water play and hand feed birds from all over the world. A great wetland day out for the whole family.
