Are a small number of performance cars trying to fool speed cameras by having their rear number plates highly illuminated?
Spotted in Ormskirk on Sunday night at the Fiveways junction was this black Golf which drove off towards Southport; it's not known of the small LED lights are highly illegal, too...

With the lack of Police traffic patrols it will probably be some time before an ANPR fitted car is behind it during the hours of darkness to see whether ANPR can read it. If it can't I am sure the car will be stopped.
Allowing empty heads to circumvent the speed camera and possibly other devices is beyond the pale.

ANPR uses infra red to read number plates as do average speed cameras.

you can illuminate your plate as much as you like, let it get filthy with road dirt and even put a plastic bag over it...the pulsed IR will penetrate and reflect off a legally manufactured plate either way.
