After highlighting the problems with the Fairways P&R this week a quick trip to Kew was called for. The Kew P&R is used as a car park for permit holders only now.

Considered a white elephant after its £4m opening the area is now being overrun with weeds and grass. It appears as if very little maintenance takes place.

One lady walking her dog told Qlocal that the area is used at night for drug deals and other unsavory activities.

Glass and rubbish litter the parking area and the building is covered in graffiti.

Something needs to be done to sort this mess out.

Isn't this area part of the Local Plan?
Supposed to be 678 houses due on there sometime in the future.

Called for by who? Yourself presumably.

Why would they spend money maintaining something that is no longer used?

Have you nothing better to do?
A glorious sunny day and the best that a local media site can do is photo a derelict site in the back of beyond at the end of a dead end that nobody is likely to see.

As the previous poster has said the site will be sold for housing so why waste public money maintaining it?

Our Qlocal and OTS reporters are the worst advert for Southport. They think that these types of reports are going to prompt our elected members in action. But rather they only serve to make themselves look stupid. Come on guys n girls, promote southport with positive reports and good news rather highlighting grot-spots, which lets face it - all towns and cities have.

    PMA - positive mental attitude.!

As a reporter are you going to follow up this report by asking Sefton Council for a comment or any positive plans for the future for this site?

Don't be daft he spends half the day wandering around looking for anything negative and the other half copying and pasting press releases from other sites.

Was anyone sacked for wasting all the public money on this white elephant? If not, why not? We hear plenty of whining about "cuts" but this council is forever happy to spend spend spend on daft ideas like this one.

    Sefton Local Plan ref MN2.5

Be interesting to find out if Prasnee and local Lib Dems will still insist that Foul Lane is closed to through traffic when the housing goes ahead.

I don't think it is down to the local Lib Dems, actually.

I assume that it is Sefton Council Planners and Highway Engineers, and also the housing developer in the future, who insist/will insist on Foul Lane being closed to through traffic.

    Breath taken away!
Is this the first step in a volte face?

I hark back to the days of Cllr David Sumner who vowed it would never be opened to through traffic.

You argued against it very recently on this forum, suggesting that the additional traffic would cause even more congestion at the Norwood Rd/Butts Lane junction than there is already.

MN2.5 has no new access roads. The Norwood Rd/Butts lane junction would become a major bottleneck.

It's going to happen sooner or later so why not open Foul Lane now?

Isn't it obvious that this would happen - unless through traffic was allowed/encouraged along roads such as Wennington Road and Canning Road. That then creates problems on those roads.

Your argument that this would encourage through traffic is completely fallacious.
Open Foul Lane and this would allow access for goods vehicles to the Crowlands Industrial area.
Anyone who tried to use it as a "rat run" to the north of the town would struggle with Wennington Road no through access, Russell Road's "illegal" humps and Canning Road's chicane and frequent give ways.
Any misguided drivers who chose this as a route from the Southport Road roundabout to the Norwood Road/Butts Lane junction would soon realise the error of their ways and never repeat the exercise.
