The outdoor market that has been held every Tuesday in King Street has now moved to Chapel Street.Stalls have been set up from the Eastbank Street end as far as Tulketh Street.
Local delivery men are concerned that there is very little room for vehicles to get through and that the positioning of the market is an accident waiting to happen.
Concerns were also raised as to how emergency vehicles would access the narrow gap down Chapel Street.

I don't think deliveries etc will have a problem. The only people i see delivering to that bit - that insist on driving there are those that deliver to the men's clothing shop. They also insist on parking right outside the shop at times.
All others have access elsewhere (at the rear) or can get to chapel street via Tulketh Street !!

I don't see this being a problem as the photo clearly shows the traffic sign advising that vehicles are only allowed access to load/unload between the hours of 6pm to 10am.
Having the Market on Chapel Street seems a sensible idea to me. The Council, in its wisdom, decided to pedestrianise Chapel Street 10 years ago, seems pointless to block King Street every Tuesday as well.

You would think that Southport would have a street called Market St, with a big wide pavement, a little used one way road with a few limited parking spaces and as an added bonus, doors into the indoor market from Market St!
OH! wait a minute :-)

Looks like a load of cheap tat on sale and probably diverts trade away from the shopkeepers who pay rather high business rates.
But hey-ho, it's Sefton Council we're dealing with here: a quick short-term Buck is worth much more than securing the future of a predominantly retail town.
When will they "understand" Southport? And when will our councillors have the wherewithal or the guts to make change happen? And our MP is remarkably silent on matters of any substance involving the town (though usually has something to say on national issues which don't massively affect us).
Frustrating.....
