Residents in Warren Road have been left in the dark by Sefton Council and local Labour Councillors for the Ward Bill and Marianne Welsh.

A street light was reported broken on 11th December 2017 to Sefton Council and still has.not been fixed.

After one local resident tripped up the kerb and severely injured her knee and face the residents turned to prospective Labour Parliamentary Candidate Liz Savage to see if she could shed some light on the matter.

The Councillors and Liz Savage have still not managed to get the light fixed.

Councillors were sent an email letter by a Sefton MBC officer this week telling them that the entire local street lighting service was being put into the private sector.

"They say the change is being brought in on 15th December 2017," says Southport Councillor Tony Dawson, "which must surely mean that the Council has already decided which firm is taking over the service. But as to who is getting the work - we are being kept in the dark."

"And everyone is also being kept completely in the dark as to the precise reasons for the change. So, I have written to the Cabinet Member John Fairclough, asking him to 'come clean' with residents. What did the Council find wrong with their previous service? Why could this not be improved within the department? Will the new service be better and cheaper and, if so, by how much?"

"Recently the Council has been bringing selected previously-privatised services back in house. Perhaps Sefton's recent Strand shopping centre purchase has given them a new capitalist perspective?"

*It has not yet been announced whether the new procurement is being done through an onshore or an offshore company and whether UK tax will be paid on the profits made."

The service standards announced for the Council's new private street lighting providers will be :
Repair of routine lighting faults (not including mains failures) - 5 working days
Repair of routine lighting faults (including mains failures) - 28 calendar days
Attendance to emergency faults both in normal hours and out of hours - 2 hours
Residents wishing to report street lighting faults can

    (a) use Sefton Council's online reporting tool on the Council’s Website https://www.sefton.gov.uk/4656
    (b) Email the Street Lighting Team: streetlighting.enquiries@sefton.gov.uk
    (c) contact the Call Centre by phone Tel: 0345 140 0845
    (d) write to the Council

"Just like the old service, if the new service does not deliver as promised after you report a fault," says Councillor Dawson, "I urge residents to email their ward councillors."

The Council response to this problem...

Due to operational issues, we are currently unable to meet our 5 day response times. Please allow up to 28 days for routine repairs to be undertaken before re-submitting your complaint. For dangerous situations contact Sefton Council immediately on 0345 140 0845.

Is the author expecting the councillors to fix the lights?

If so I look forward to seeing Barton, Dawson and Pugh up a ladder to fix the dozens of faulty lights that have been reported in Dukes Ward.

Why would anyone contact a unelected parliamentary candidate about a council matter?

By tedious Dawson’s logic the third councillor in that Ward Daniel Lewis has left them in the dark too as he’s possibly too busy off holding Meols Ward surgeries (as well as standing for MP in Formby) whilst Cllr jo Barton is moonlighting in dukes....if anyone is letting their residents down its the fickle libs rather than this distasteful smear from Cllr Dawson because they defected from the libs due to their nasty politics.

As for the new supplier he knows the answer already as got a full answer in council on 25th January but yet again he wants another lib bandwagon jump on the strand bemoaning council not paying tax that wasn’t due:

Question submitted by Councillor Dawson to the Cabinet Member for Locality Services (Councillor Fairclough)
“Who is the Council's present contractor for street lighting repair and replacement and what aspects of that firm's present provision exist which could not have also been provided, if required, by the Council's own workforce if this service had continued to be provided in-house?”
    Response:
“The Contractor that has been appointed is Jones Lighting Ltd.
Activities that the new Contractor can complete that the In-house team were unable to:-
    1. Disconnections, transfers of service and new connections on the Scottish Power mains network. This previously had to be sub-contracted as the Council’s operatives were not trained or accredited to undertake such activities.
    2. Erection and removal of street lighting columns. This previously had to be sub-contracted as the Council in-house team did not have a ‘Hi-Ab’ vehicle (Crane) to facilitate such installations.
    3. Linked with 2 above, during out-of-hours emergency call-outs relating to street lighting, despite the in-house operatives attending site, if a column needed to be taken down or removed from site then this has to be undertaken by a sub-contractor delaying the make safe on site.
    4. Due to the size of the organisation, if the Council experiences peaks in the number of active faults on street, the Contractor will have access to additional resources to deal with such peaks in workload; whereas the in-house team had a limited fixed resource and hence additional support had to be sub-contracted.
The new Contractor can now provide a ‘Turn-Key’ service to the Authority without the need to sub-contract elements of work, thus potentially reducing costs but also streamlining the management and delivery of the service

Finally, is he saying his vast powers is to email exactly the same email address we would do as that makes him seem even more of a waste of space.

Hope person who hurt knee recovers swiftly though.

How many Lib Dem’s does it take to change a lightbulb? None....they’re too busy working up a story to blame “bootie labour”

Labour in Norwood Ward is too busy delivering laughable propaganda through our doors to do anything useful. Glossy crap too. Some spikey red haired woman blathering on about how puffed up she is by having a gong. #tragic

At least they come round unlike the Tories, they obviously have too much to do around Selworthy Rd/Waterloo Rd I bet they don't have any problems getting things done.

This item has not been presented to QLocal by Councillor Tony Dawson or anyone connected with him."

50% of the article is about or quoting him though so could easily be assumed especially as its in a Lib Dem style.

  12. Bossnut says:08/02/2018 06:23 PM
So it looks like one of the other candidates stirring the LibDems v Labour in norwood.

Or someone who neither likes Tony Dawson or The Welsh's.

I would be surprised if the story last as it is pretty defamatory.

Oh but we keep getting told that Labour have never won here, can't win here etc and then we see nonsensical Lib Dem press releases like this. Of course they are in no way worried that Labour got the most votes in Norwood ward at the 2017 general election and the Lib Dems were third. I suppose they revealed their campaigning ineptitude by expecting "she lives here" was going to sweep Sue McGuire to a glorious victory. A pity they didn't have enough volunteers to deliver all their leaflets (they had over 20,000 left over). They are in their death throes as we can clearly see by this desperate rubbish. They have never taken any responsibility for any of the swingeing cuts to health, education and police they supported during the coalition years so if course they will blame anyone else for anything!

    All I can say is:-

The service standards announced for the Council's new private street lighting providers will be :

Repair of routine lighting faults (including mains failures) - 28 calendar days

Residents wishing to report street lighting faults can

It these are "Standards"????? 28 days ffs, forget what party/councilor does what, Barton included...... these are "Shite"

  15. salus.populi says:08/02/2018 07:55 PM
No point voting Lib Dem. They don't even field candidates in some wards so their chances of ever having a majority on the council are miniscule. All they do is criticise the other parties. You never hear them say what they'd do if they gained control because they know it will never happen.

Not only your normal rightwing nastiness but also an outright lie... at no point is she "blathering on" about having an MBE, she's simply got one so is introduced as Mhairi Doyle MBE. Try the truth for a change, the constant lies just make you look silly.
Btw- She was awarded it for services to social inclusion - what have you done apart from spit bile on this site?
