A motion to next week’s Sefton Council meeting put forward by the controlling Labour group will mean a 5% pay increase for councillors if approved.
The proposal, due to be proposed by senior Labour councillor Paulette Lappin, calls for an across the board pay rise of 5% to council staff next year.
http://modgov.sefton.gov.uk/moderngo...&Opt=3#AI40038
However, because pay to councillors in Sefton Council’s ‘Members Allowance Scheme’ is stated to be “linked to the average pay increase given to Sefton Council employees” this would mean that councillors would also enjoy the same 5% pay rise.
Councillor Lappin, who is currently paid £23,750 a year for her part time role as a Litherland councillor and Cabinet Member, would take home an increase of nearly £1200 a year if the Labour proposal goes through.

We who pay for councillors should decide what they get, firstly a large reduction in number of councillors is needed and their pay is performance related to their attendance to meetings and collective effectiveness of their decisions.
Of course we will get the usual replys from councillors on this site arguing as to who's party is right instead of doing what is required to satisfy us who pay their generous salaries and pensions.

Given the identical article is on the other site, has this come from the desk of the rival parties as the title is a bit disingenuous to point a finger at a specific party....the councillor has asked for a pay rise for council staff which by implication may link to cllr pay.
However, I'd hope they would waive this right given the state of the town and our local councillors hardly output much for the town.
One big joke is the party "leader" gets an extra £4K in allowances for leading the party...I'd hardly say we see much leading from the libs or tories based on behaviour of Cllrs and what we get.

Actually you are missing the bigger picture there. The Labour Party "leader" gets an extra £22K in allowances for leading his party.
For you is that an even bigger joke? If not, what do you think we get that makes that justified?

Doesn't he lead the council? You wouldn't be bemoaning that if he was a Lib Dem.
Anyway, this motion is about public sector pay increase it so happens that the councillors have their pay linked but even you must agree it's not a motion to increase councillors pay. How about when you're in the debate you get agreement that it's excludes councillors? The Libs have campaigned for a public sector pay cap removal, would that not have similar effect?
Reminds me a bit of John Pugh loaning about the MP increase happening,he still took it, could've given to charity?
It feels like you can't work with anyone and are always wanting to be at war with other parties.....how is that in our best interest, you've achieved nothing in those "battles".
Where has your leader been since the election/ejection? At least Liz Savage is staying active in the area, Damien Moore also disappeared between the 2015 defeat and now albeit he's likely to achieve a lot more for the town than 20 years of Pugh. I think he's actually lost the plot as he's off claiming that the new PCC deputy is clear "cronyism " when it's then reported 20 applied and our own councillor come accountant (you may know him) states that it was "a transparent process"...do you think he should apologise?

And no doubt, they will also be as generous to all employees of Sefton Council and give them a 5% increase, hmm, thought not.
Greed upon greed upon greed.

You were the one doing the bemoaning, not me.
Just to remind you, you said "One big joke is the party "leader" gets an extra £4K in allowances for leading the party."
The Lib Dem Leader on Sefton Council is the leader of the opposition.
Are you saying it is wrong for Opposition Leaders to receive an allowance for that role?
If so, then you must consider Corbyn's extra £62,000 (on top of the £75,000 he gets as an MP) to be an absolutely massive joke.

No, he probably does some leading, when did Cllr Maguire do some "leading", seem to remember reading two defecting, one suspended and others posting on sites deceiving the electorate by not declaring they're a councillor.....if they're not fighting with the other parties, they're fighting with each other at our expense/loss....even long term stalwart cllr Dawson didn't vote for them nationally if the reason for his exile is believed.
I would say yes, it's not an extra allowance I feel that's deserved, local council should not really be party driven as it's evident in southport it's party way before people.

2) what "leading" have our local party leaders done to warrant an extra £4K
3) are you a local councillor?
4) are you an accountant?
This whole party based politics hold southport back as there's no way our Tories and Libs plus surprise independents can work together for the people of southport rather than their own egos.

Why?
Because you are totally incapable of justifying your claims?
All I was asking was for some evidence to support your claim that Corbyn was worth an extra £62,000 as leader of the Opposition in Parliament because "he probably does some leading".
Is it really that difficult?

Here we go again, you always try to make an issue out of anything Labour connected, I have no doubt that Corbyn's salary is laid down in some form as regards parliamentary pay, using your argument, the Lib-Dem contingent in Parliament has no significance, so should they paid at all?
We may not agree with Parliamentary salaries, but MPs must be paid or we finish up with only the very wealthy standing as MPs.

Just like this one:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016...allowance-wor/
Ex-PM size allowance yet all the ills from the coalition not the Libs fault. Our last MPs pension isn't bad either...feels like with the benefit the town has felt is all we've done is give a local man a very generous pension, unless prasnee is ready to list what the protest vote has done for the town.
