Lancashire Cheese Day at Julie’s Deli, Southport Market on 27th August.

Visitors to Southport Market next Saturday, 27th August are in for a treat at
the Lancashire Cheese Day.

The idea from Julie’s Deli will see Julie and her
team offering tasters of the award winning Lancashire Crumbly
and Lancashire Creamy cheeses produced by Greenfields Dairy in Goosnargh.

There will also be Lancashire Cheese & Onion Quiche, Garlic Lancashire and
Crumbly Lancashire with chives on sale, plus Ploughman Pies- a pork
pie surrounded with Lancashire Cheese and Sweet Pickle set in pastry case.
Lancashire Crumbly was chosen as Supreme Champion at the International
Cheese Awards in 2015 in addition to winning a Gold Medal. It has a fresh,
slightly acidic flavour with a smooth and moist texture and was first made in
the early 1950’s in Chipping when customers requested a bright, white, moist,
crumbly cheese as an alternative to the more traditional creamy and tasty
varieties of Lancashire cheeses available at that time.

Lancashire Creamy also won Gold at the International Cheese Awards 2015
and has a fluffy, open texture with a rich creamy flavour and smooth buttery
finish. It is an excellent culinary cheese and when melted maintains a smooth,
even consistency.

Tasty Lancashire which has a delicious mature nutty bite will also be available
to try.

Other stalls at the market are also supporting the day including
Mustard Cafe offering Chilli & Creamy Lancashire Cheese Beef Burgers;
Blackhurst Butchers’ Lancashire Tasty & Leek Sausages;

Mrs G’s Fruit & Veg - Pear, Tasty Lancashire & Chicory Salad and
Lancashire Cheese on Toast at the Mad Hatters Tea Room.
Julie’s deli opened in 2014 and offers a range of pies, pasties, hot dishes
and a vegetarian selection, all prepared and cooked fresh at the deli.

She regularly runs promotional events and says it is the ideal way to introduce
people to different types of cheese or dishes they have not tried before.
