Today we unveil our new Pride fire engine that represents diversity and the promotion of value and respect for any of our workforce or those in our communities that are LGBTQ+. Why is Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service talking about IDAHO Day and why have we designed a special Pride pump?

Taking part in IDAHO Day and LGBT events around the county provide an opportunity for the Service to focus on and talk about LGBT staff, volunteers and communities. Lancashire is a county rich in culture and diversity which is celebrated inside and outside the organisation which creates the best practices for us to operate as a Fire and Rescue Service. Differences need to be celebrated and value and respect shown towards others. Lancashire is committed to ensuring that individuals and communities across the county, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, remain safe and feel able to engage with the Service.

The number of staff who are open about their sexual orientation or gender identity in the workplace is slowly increasing and this is important because when staff can be themselves at work they are more productive, engaged and are more likely to make a contribution. In an environment where respect for the individual is guaranteed and people can be open and honest about themselves, talent can be released to the greatest effect.

Taking part in IDAHO day is important and marks an important step in the LGBT calendar of events for 2018. Staff are coming together to pull the Pride Fire Engine 7.5 miles along Blackpool promenade to raise awareness for The Firefighter’s Charity and two LGBT charities, Out in the Bay and George House Trust. This actively promotes inclusion and support amongst crews and staff. Come and show your support if you can, it’s a lovely day for it!

The next stop on our Pride tour will be Lancaster Pride on Saturday 19 May!

How about painting the Union Jack on one instead or is that now considered racist.

World's gone mad and the lunatics are running it.

It really beggars belief, why not do a black one for people with severe depression or a sky blue one for the religious as that's where they think they are going. I'm fed up with glorifying a sexual deviance, for Christ's sake just let them try and be unobtrusive like heterosexual people.

I don't give a toss what anyone does in their bedroom so WHY do we need to glorify ONE section of non conformists who wish everyone to know where they stick their appendages. I have NEVER felt the need to tell the world I am heterosexual so what makes them think anyone is remotely interested. If two blokes or two women moved next door I would treat them as I would anyone else without needing to be told of their sexual preferences as I have a thought process of my own to weigh things up.

We really are in the dark ages with people, why does someones sexuality have to be the subject of a pantomime colour scheme on a fire engine.
If they have some excess funds to waste why not some more essential fire-fighting equipment.

Why are we singling people out on the basis of their sexual preferences what happened to treating people equally ?

Should other sections of the community have a colour scheme I want a black and ginger one to celebrate the royal wedding,

I could suggest one with a black sheet over it but that might offend !

Or how about a Jewish one with the end of the hoses cut off !!!!!

Or how about one with playing Beatles tune siren for Liverpool Fires.

Or a nice golden font to supply the water for C of E fires.

A serious point is some people might think its one of those Limousine Fire engines with a stag party on board.

Who says they are sexual deviants?
What or where is your authority for making that statement?
To what standard should we 'conform'?

Purely and simply BIOLOGY does. If man (the species not the individual) had started to evolve as homosexual that would have been the end of it.

From the typical comments appearing on here and every other thread along similar lines just goes to prove the need for these types of campaigns.

Really ? I believe that anyone with a problem with LGBT will not be converted with multi coloured fire engines/ ambulances/ police cars etc....their problems are deep rooted. However, it will alienate people who would like to see the money spent to the good of everyone.

There is no need to make fun of peoples less mainstream sexual preferences with pantomime fire engines we are all equal.

The neanderthals wasting tax payers money on these mad cap schemes need to concentrate on giving a first class service to all users.

When the political football moves off LGBT issues the professional campaigners will no doubt look for some other "issue" to try and indoctrinate people with.

Why would a service recipient know or want to know if the firefighter who arrives in their time of need prefers same sex relationships or keeps a cat, the issue is surely the standard of service.

Just how much do you think painting one fire engine actually cost, if anything at all. As for the money being spent on the good of everyone, I think the appliance being used to raise money for several charities is doing just that.
