Merseyside Police has launched a ‘Police with Pride’ rainbow patrol car to increase awareness and reporting of hate crime.

From Monday (Thursday, 20 April 2017) the vehicle will be used as any other operational response car would to attend the full range of incidents across Merseyside.

But unlike traditional white, blue and yellow police cars, the vehicle also features the colours of the Rainbow Flag and will display will display the Crimestoppers logo and Stop Hate UK website address.

The car will also be used at a variety of community events including LGBT events such as Liverpool Pride, International Day Against Homophobia Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT) events and Homotopia to represent the force.

The car was officially launched today (Thursday, 20 April 2017) at Merseyside Police HQ at a ceremony attended by Crimestoppers, Stop Hate UK and the Police and Crime Commissioner as well as a number of partner agencies and community members.

Assistant Chief Constable Julie Cooke said: "While it’s out and about on the roads of Merseyside, it is hoped the car will grab the attention of everyone who sees it.

"We know hate crime in all its forms is under-reported. We believe any step that shows in a visible way that we support those members of our communities most likely to be the victims of hate crime is a positive one.

"This car will not just attend hate crime incidents, it will be seen out and about going to all manner of incidents and we hope that it will stimulate conversations with the communities we go into.

"This is not a one-off gesture - the car is just one of the many ways in which Merseyside Police show our support for victims of hate crime across Merseyside.

"We hope this will encourage more victims of hate crime to come forward and report incidents to the police, and also further increase engagement with the public."

Anyone with information about hate crime should contact Merseyside Police on 101. Alternatively contact Stop Hate Crime’s 24-hour helpline on 0800 138 1625. In an emergency always call 999.

As ever.. must be seen to be bending over backwards to accommodate the moaning minorities.. I wonder how long it will be before they can't arrest criminals anymore in case it upsets them.

How long before they start using pepper spray with a hint of rose or lavender so as not to upset the minorities o maybe halal spray in case it contains traces of pig. Bloody worlds gone mad.

I HATE Vandals, Drug Dealers, Burglars, Murderers, Rapists, Paedophiles, Illegal Drivers, Thieving Disingenuous Politicians, purveyors of Animal Cruelty, Terrorists and idiot cyclists if that is ok with the Police who seem to worry more about anyone who hasn't got a gene or two missing or misaligned that says anything about someone who has. What a crazy upside down world this has become.

More patronising pointless crap from our plods. Just do your bloody jobs. Enough of all this ridiculous virtue signalling. (And I say that as a gay man.)

    Jesus, WTF!

I'm gay, I don't care if police offices have rainbow shoelaces or turn up in a rainbow painted car, if I need them just turn up.

They say this sort of thing is to show support and awareness, all this does is add fuel to the fire of people likely to 'hate' us.

They say they will use the car to respond to hate crimes, my sexuality is my business who I tell is up to me. If I need the police having a rainbow car outside my house tells my neighbors I may be a victim of a hate crime, as I'm white doesn't leave much else!

Stop prating about with pointless campaigns.

Judging by the comments on here, it is working.

    'Hints of lavender'...'genes missing'..

That one single car with a few coloured stripes on has really riled up the idiot villagers with their torches and pitchforks. Wonder if there was a car that symbolised awareness of domestic violence, or hate crimes towards the disabled, there'd be so much vitriol?

Just waiting for the 'don't care long as they don't do it near me' or the don't mind most as long as they don't act all 'fairy' around me', brigade.

The 1970s just rang. It wants its bigots back.
