This week sees the launch of Queenscourt Hospice’s annual Lights of Love Appeal – a special way to remember a loved one and support your local hospice. The appeal encourages the local community to honour someone special by making a donation and dedicating a light in the hospice trees.

Harriet Wilkinson, Individual Giving Fundraiser, Queenscourt Hospice said: “We know special occasions like Christmas are always emotional times, especially if you can’t be with a loved one. The lights look so lovely in the hospice trees and mean so much to local people. As a charity we rely upon donations from our local community to provide essential, free, care to local people with life limiting illnesses”.

The “Lights of Love” will shine in the hospice trees throughout December and January. Messages included on the donation form will also feature in the Lights of Love book of dedications. All those who donate and dedicate a light will be sent a special appeal ribbon. The ribbons will also be available for a suggested donation of £1 from Queenscourt hospice welcome desk and Boxtree Kitchen in Churchtown.

Last year those who kindly supported the Lights of Love Appeal helped to raise over £20,000 which could provide 80 nights of specialist nursing care for a night to comfort, reassure and look after a patient in their own home.

Remembering Joanne

“I cannot thank Queenscourt enough for the care they gave to my wife Joanne during the precious time she had left. I donate and dedicate a light to Joanne every year. It’s my special way to remember and I know she would have loved how pretty they look”. Ged Stoker, Joanne’s husband and dedicated Queenscourt volunteer for 18 years and counting.

To donate and dedicate a light, local supporters simply need to pick up a leaflet and fill in the form or visit www.queenscourt.org.uk/lights. Leaflets are available in all of the Queenscourt Charity shops, the hospice welcome desk and at Boxtree Kitchen for Queenscourt café in Churchtown.
