The mystery of the Lone Piper at the Monument has been solved. On Saturday we were sent a picture of the Lone Piper at the Monument with no explanation.

The piper is called Colin Hughes and he is from the Royal British Legion.

He was sending members of Southport Hesketh Round Table off on their cycling challenge from Southport monument to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. A journey of over 100 miles to mark the 100 year battle of Passchendaele.

The “Chairman’s Challenge” has raised over £2000 for the Royal British Legion and started with the laying of a wreath at the monument before visiting Byng House and then the long cycle to Staffordshire. Just giving page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraisi...tomark100years
The challenge was completed by Chairman Dean Wilson , Vice Chairman Dan Hubbard and treasurer Chris Green. We would like to apologise for the early morning wakeup call but hope the residents of Southport enjoyed the wonderful version of “On the road to Passchendaele” played by Colin and that it was for a very good cause.
