On Friday 17th November, Damien visited Christ the King Catholic High School and Sixth Form Centre in Southport.
The voluntary-aided mixed 11-18 school is performing well despite its recent Ofsted report requiring improvements to be made. In 2017, 55% of students gained 5 A*-C GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths, well above the national average of 39%.
During Damien's visit to Christ the King, he met with the Headteacher, James Lancaster, and had a tour of the school’s premises and facilities, and had the opportunity to speak with pupils in class and those taking part in the NCS programme.
Speaking of his visit, Damien said:
"I was very encouraged by my visit to Christ the King. The headteacher is very supportive of his pupils and likewise, they appear to be taking full advantage of the school's facilities."
"During our meeting, Mr Lancaster and I discussed a number of issues and had a very frank discussion about the school's targets. I was delighted to hear that the school was performing well although recognise that more support needs to be forthcoming."
"I will be meeting with the school and the headteacher again in the near future with a view to keeping residents updated as to its progress."

Friday mmm! I think there was a Front Page headline in one National Newspaper on Friday about schools asking parents to supply stationery because of the Tory cuts.

Yippee, another local politician who writes his own "news" to join the ranks of Dawson, Shaw and Barton. Just what they town's been crying out for.
Qlocal and the Other Town Site may as well merge as there's little other than the self penned self promotion of political pygmies.
