Isn't the third paragraph exactly what the residents want their MP to express as isn't the MP damned by their party before they open their mouth? John Pugh didn't exactly do much about this other than cost the town a lot of money trying to block Sainsbury's and with his henchmen and women use any chance to bash bootle to hide their lack of impact.....potentially some on this site.
In its criticism however the letter is a bit Tory vs Labour rather than pro southport but the final paragraph is also key as no one has said what the actual cost difference is. It'd be nicer red but does as with anything depend on what the opportunity cost is.
All parties have blame or responsibilities to shoulder on the cuts so for southport the key thing surely is someone trying to negotiate the southport corner. My big disappointment with the libs is they feel making it southport versus the rest of the world would actually work. There is a thought that the council probably could think what's the point in spreading help to southport when they'd get "slammed" anyway, plus with the current Lib performance would any be trusted in the cabinet.

I understood that there is a tender process and the public service in question can compete against any "private sector" bids. The problem is that the costs in the public sector are often higher than the private sector. Even with the profit the private sector company needs to make, the bid is cheaper to the public purse. There are plenty of these arrangements that provide a quality service at a lower cost to the patient or wider public. You seem to be in a cloud of political hate rather than having any logic to offer.

You have got No Memory really have you? Labour came into power in 1997 and won THREE General Elections. Just to give you a clue Gordon Brown as Chancellor had paid off quite a wedge of the country's debt. Then the WORLDWIDE Banking debacle happened in 2008 and Brown who had taken over as Prime Minister had the choice let the Banks fail or bail them out, he chose to bail them out costing £Billions. But all you muppets come up with is the state they left the country in, I can't imagine the state it would have been in if he had not bailed the Banks out. This stupid b itch would dither and dalley until it was too late. Oh and by the way why don't you engage whatever brain cells you have and GOOGLE how much have the Tories borrowed whilst cutting everything to the bone it is a hell of a lot more than Labour ever borrowed but that's what you lot can't comprehend.
The Tories are just as S HIT as you think Labour are but obviously more Upper Class S HIT.

I'm surprised you can't get such a "simple" fact correct.
You appear to be unaware that the Labour Party have been in absolute control of Sefton Council for more than 5 years. Before that they were the largest party on the Council and held the Leadership.
So if there has been any cutting of Sefton's budget in recent years it's been done by the Labour Party. If Labour had thought the local public would have supported it they could have proposed bigger increases in the level of Council Tax, to balance the books, but they chose not to.
One thing I will congratulate the Labour Party on: they're very good at blaming everybody else.

He didn't, actually.
The National Debt was higher at the end of Gordon Brown's Chancellorship compared to the start.
Obviously it was very much higher at the end of his (brief) period as Prime Minister.
And it's a lot higher now, under the Conservatives.

The Labour party may well be in control of how Sefton's budget is spent but they are not in control of how much the government gives them to spend.
As well you know.

Oooooo, looks like I hit a Labourite raw nerve. I'm a Muppet and need to engage brain cells, ummmmmm
To answer one question, yes, I do have a good memory and remember struggling to bring up my family in those dizzy heights of Labour control.
As I said, it doesn't matter who is in Downing Street, it's the same old SH IT, just a different coloured party.
And as you mentioned Gordon Brown, was he ever voted in as the Prime Minister in any election, or was he just handed the job when B-Liar scuttled off?

I don't know where in the borough you live.
In 1 of the 2 Southport town centre conservation areas. In a Victorian property that has thankfully been brought up to 21st century living standards.

Most peculiar then that in so many of your posts you refer to 'the people of Southport' in such an insulting way and as though you are not part of this town.
As has just been said, this was about red or black not your political persuasion....end of discussion

Of course governments (of whatever political colour) have always decided how much they give to councils. But that isn't the only money coming into councils, there is Council Tax as well.
That's why I said "If Labour had thought the local public would have supported it they could have proposed bigger increases in the level of Council Tax, to balance the books, but they chose not to."

Let's not forget the five years of that in partnership with the lib dems before you try and weasel the moral high ground for the irrelevant party!

As usual, this thread has degenerated into a petty party-political squabble complete with name-calling.

Council Tax couldn't have been raised any more than it has been as the Government has had an increase cap in place as you very well know.
