I appreciate that they are often driving past at great speed, so that writing on the side is difficult to read clearly, when did you last look at an ambulance?
It's just that if you think they are operated by a "Merseyside Ambulance Service" then you really need to look more closely.

Usual predictable idea, ages old, wont change, right or wrong. No one can change the current state of affairs, maybe better in west Lancs but wont happen and everyone knows it

Are you not looking at this through the wrong end of the telescope? Are you asking the right questions. Does Southport really wish to be part of the Liverpool City Region but not part of Sefton? Should West Lancashire and Southport combine to form a new authority within the LCR. The geographic span should not be a problem - after all the boundary between Wigan in Greater Manchester and Merseyside is at Billinge so Skelmersdale could not be regarded as a stretch. It is not as if the Scouse accent is unheard in Skem. West Lancashire is already an associate member of the Liverpool City Region and does not feature in Preston City Region deal. As and when the railway to Skelmersdale gets built it will be quicker to get from there to Central than from Southport.
Already the electoral commission has bolted on solid blue Tory wards on to the Southport Constituency in the form of Banks and Tarleton - so if some boundaries have become permeable why not others?

Has anyone asked Lancashire or West Lancs if they want us to join them I doubt it.

Chester (Cheshire) & Ormskirk (Lancashire) have Merseyrail trains, unless you are a brickie looking to build a wall at Freshfield I can't see any problems.

Jobs could potentially be on the line, here. And the logistics of negotiations for multiple organisations make it look even more complicated than Brexit. At least with Brexit, there's only one organisation to deal with - the EU.
Regarding the three services I've just mentioned, and there will be more, who will carry out negotiations, and at what cost? Over what timescale would negotiations need to be carried out, and how could you ensure all parties meet the deadline? What happens to the services if the deadline is not met?
What happens to the properties in Southport owned by these organisations of Merseyside, and how much would the transfer of ownership cost? Who pays for that?
There is no such thing as Merseyside Ambulance Service, do you mean the North West Ambulance Service which covers, funnily enough, The North West and it's constituent parts.

,...they don't have the concessionary passes though as I understand it, which is the concern especially for elderly etc.

Yes yes yes.
I want you out of Sefton too, don't be surprised if most of us outside Southport agree.
Set up a peoples republic of Southport, close the bypass and toll Brooms cross for local use only.

Every asset Southport had, has been sold off. They will be selling Forest Road depot next. Churchtown library cost £70,000 to demolish because of the asbestos, the land was sold for £75,000. We could have easily raised that and run the library with volunteers.

At least this time we don't get caught up in a democratic nightmare but it could well cost local tax payers a fortune and those who claim easy access to Merseytravel etc are kidding themselves. What basis have they got for saying it will be easy? So we possibly could lose all those cheap fares, concessionary travels passes etc.
Southport if unitary would be a tiny authority which would mean no economies of scale for services and at a time when govt is increasingly pushing the bill for services on to local tax payers.
We'd also be hit hard by loss of business rates as currently a huge chunk of that comes from south of the borough via Seaforth docks and we'd also have to find the funds for being a town with one of the biggest percentage of elderly for its population in the country with the huge social care bill that comes with it.
Lancs seems a worse situation than Sefton so not much point even discussing that.
If we are expected to make a decision on this... give us the facts this time... instead of just whipping stuff up and hoping people follow lemming like over the cliff again!
If it can be shown that Southport will be better off and residents will not face a huge hike in council tax bills, ask me then.
You are joking - Lancashire is far better managed and the Council Rates are lower than those of Merseyside!

What good is a concessionary pass if it only takes one to Liverpool where most people do not want to go?
Actually - Lancashire do operate a concession on transport for elderly people - buses and trams are free, which is standard across the UK.

Always the councils fault but I know it's the government's austerity lead slashing of funding
