Local MP Damien Moore has challenged Labour Party MEPs over their vote last week in the European Parliament to block progress in Britain’s Brexit talks.
The Brexit negotiations are the most important negotiations our country face. The Conservatives want to move negotiations on from discussing withdrawal issues to talks about the substance of the future relationship we want with the EU. This will cover, for example, the rules our businesses trade under the way the police work across borders to keep us safe, and how we control our borders.
Las week the European Parliament passed a non-binding motion to hold back talks on the future relationship. Remarkably some of the Labour Party’s local MEPs voted in support of this motion.
Challenging them, Damien said:
“However people voted in the referendum, most now want to get on with making Brexit work. That means negotiating the best deal for families and businesses in constituencies like Southport.
“The Conservatives are doing just that, but our local Labour MEPs voted to block progress in the negotiations. They need to explain to the people in Southport why they voted delay talks and provide unnecessary uncertainty for thousands of residents and businesses in our Town.
“It looks like Labour MEPs are more interested in frustrating Brexit than delivering the decision the country made and getting the right deal.
Three north west Labour MEPs voted for the delay, including: Theresa Griffin, Wajid Khan, and Julie Ward.
The EU are still waiting for the Conservatives to negotiate settlement of
1. the right of EU citizens in the UK post brexit,
2. settlement of our budget contributions, and
3. the border arrangements between Ireland and Northern Ireland
All seem to be beyond the wit of the UK team, who want to move on to other items.

I would just say to the EUSSR we are leaving and regarding money I would say we will accept 100 Billion pounds. We can buy cheaper products from around the world. Before the EUSSR we made the concord, the hovercraft and the fastest diesel trains. my son lives and works in China and they want to buy everything British. The market is over double that of the EUSSR.The UK invented more than any country and we will have good manufacturing jobs again. it should not be called Brexit but Believe.
