West Lancs MP Rosie Cooper has welcomed the introduction of the Flood Re insurance scheme and is urging West Lancashire residents to shop around for the best insurance policy.

Launched on 4 April 2016, Flood Re is a national scheme that designed to help provide better access to affordable home insurance for those who live in areas of high flood risk.

MP Rosie is encouraging local residents to visit the Flood Re website at www.floodre.co.uk

to find a list of participating insurers, especially those residents who have previously been affected by flooding and may have found it difficult to get home insurance policies in the past.

Rosie Cooper MP said:

“Following the Boxing Day floods there are many homeowners who have had to turn to their home insurance to cover the costs of the damage and repair.

“For many flood victims one of their deepest worries is not being able to get access to affordable home insurance to protect themselves, their families and their homes against future flooding.

“I raised this issue on the floor of the House in 2013 with then Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg MP and demanded action on the new deal for flood insurance that had been promised.

“There is no question that more action is required to address the home insurance costs situation as it leaves many homeowners exposed with no help on support because the premiums are simply astronomical.

“I would strongly urge flood-affected residents to check the Flood Re website for more information.”
