They aren't "all" pay and display and patrolled by vultures though.
No reason why the hotel couldn't do a deal with Sports Direct for access to the car park above there.

The hotel would easily be able to negotiate a deal with the privately owned car park to offer parking to guests.

" The Tulketh Street multi-storey car park is within a site currently in the process of being renovated to
provide a Sports Direct retail development. JMP understands that the public car park element of the site
is being retained as part of the development scheme, and so JMP will liaise with Sports Direct to
establish any potential for discounted parking for hotel customers.
It is proposed that the hotel operator will seek to enter into an overnight parking agreement with the
Tulketh Street multi-storey car park once it has reopened. The site is well served by other town centre
car parks which will provide alternative options for the hotel operator and visitor provision if an
agreement cannot be reached with regard to the Tulketh Street."
They are pinning a lot on the hope of doing a deal with Sports Direct for using the multi story (assuming that they are still there in a few years, that site having a poor track record for longevity of tenure). Their fall back option is the London St NCP car park, I wouldn't fancy lugging my suitcases all the way from there. Failing that they are relying on the other surface car parks in Tulketh St, which are already at full capacity.
If they had looked at building in Southport a little earlier, the old Morrisons site would have been an ideal option for demolition & rebuilding with a new multi story car park included.

"It is considered that, given the highly accessible location of the site adjacent to Southport Rail Station and within Southport Town Centre, many people visiting the hotel will travel by non-car modes"
"Visitors arriving by car, and service vehicles, will therefore be able to drive almost completely up to the hotel entrance for dropping off purposes"
"The proposal does not include any on-site car parking provision. This is entirely appropriate and in line with the business model of modern centrally hotels, where there is ready access to public transport and to existing public car parking facilities"

Just because they write it down in a plan, doesn't mean that it will work.

No, the developers must just be bungling incompetent amateurs who just happen to have millions of pounds available and are going to spend it on this folly without consulting with the great academic minds of Qlocal.

The public transport links into Southport are very poor, unless you want to go to/from Liverpool. This type of hotel and the nightly charge that will likely result from a major redevelopment will need to attract business customers. Or the rare premium personal overnighter. Both these groups will be looking for an upmarket-ish experience relative to the nightly rate and I doubt will return is the proposition includes a hefty car park charge and/or vulturous behaviour from the general car park experience.

What is the point of another hotel.? There is so little to do in Southport these days, apart from visit the many charity shops on Lord Street. can not imagine I would want to holiday here. As for staying on business.... this town has hardly any. This is not a negative comment. It is just realistic.

Realistic, fine. Talk Gloom and that's what you get. Perhaps our BID Team should nip on over to Blackburn, what was it the other night on the NW Local news.... They now have the Best High St in the country.
When I worked there in the 80's it was the "Pits" so something has altered drastically, and if they can do it lowly little Lanc's market town then surely we can.
If you keep talking something "Down" then that's where you end up!!!
