Marston's want to build Pub next to Tesco and McDonalds. They already have the hugely successful Guelder Rose on the Marine Drive.
The proposed development will be a food-led operation, although it will constitute a
fully licensed public house.
The proposed gross external area of the development is 717 sq.m, which will be split
over two floors, with the public area and back of house facilities at ground floor level, and a three bedroom manager’s apartment at the first floor, along with facilities for staff. The proposal includes 70 car parking spaces for customers and staff (3 of which will be disabled), and 5 Sheffield hoop type cycle stands suitable for 5 cycles.
The site extends to 0.42 hectares (1.03 acres). It is a vacant, undeveloped site which
lies adjacent to an existing Tesco supermarket, McDonald’s fast food restaurant and
retail units located at Kew Retail Park.
The site is broadly triangular in shape. The site fronts onto the A570 Scarisbrick New Road. Main access to the site is via an existing road which provides access to the adjacent Tesco Supermarket and McDonald’s Restaurant. The application site forms part of the wider retail offer at Meols Cop and Kew Retail Parks. The retail uses in the vicinity add to the overall character of the area which is predominately commercial in feel.

One application was withdrawn in 2000 but a subsequent one in 2003 was approved but never went ahead.
