Monty Don and Anita Rani opened Southport Flower Show today
TV gardener Monty Don and Countryfile presenter Anita Rani opened Southport Flower Show today to a packed audience.
Monty, who has been the face of BBC Gardeners’ World since 1993 and was recently honoured with an OBE after entertaining TV audiences for more than 25 years, has been sharing his expert growing tips with visitors.
Monty described the event as 'one of the great shows'.
Anita also gave a talk about her experiences filming on Countryfile.
Southport Flower Show continues until Sunday with a string of TV gardeners set to appear including Christine Walkden (Saturday and Sunday), Carol Klein (Saturday) and David Domoney (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
General Manager Ray Roukin said: "We've had a fantastic first day with lovely weather. Every year the show gets better and the standard this year is exceptional. Come to see us this weekend for a great family day out with so much to see and do."

I went to the Flower show today and had a great time. It was not expensive and there was plenty to do and see.
Sea-Salted did you even go to the show today? If not, how can you comment on it?

ive been every year for the last 20 years and there is less and less each year. Even the west lancs dog display team have given up this year.
And to hold the opening ceremony in the tent was madness.
