A new fleet of road safety enforcement vans is being rolled out across Lancashire today (Monday May 21st).
The high visibility vehicles, operated by Lancashire Constabulary, will play a key role in reducing road traffic collisions and injuries on the county’s roads.
Eight vehicles will monitor accident routes and roads identified by members of the public to detect speeding, seat belt offences, mobile phone use and drivers not fully in control of their vehicles.
Supt Julian Platt said: “These vans have been liveried to provide a highly visible presence.
“We want drivers to see them and know we are there.
“The technicians are tasked to enforce in areas that will have the maximum impact on reducing road traffic collisions.
“We plan the technicians’ shifts around the times when we see most collisions to make sure the enforcement vehicles have the maximum effect.
“By being present we hope to improve driver behaviour to make Lancashire’s roads safer for everyone who uses them.”
The road safety enforcement technicians are Lancashire Constabulary staff. Due to a significant increase in abusive and offensive behaviour they are equipped with body worn cameras and radios to be used in emergencies.
The new enforcement vehicles are also equipped with four CCTV cameras, which cover 360˚ surrounding the van for the technicians’ safety.
Supt Platt says: “The majority of drivers are considerate and abide by the rules of the road.
“Unfortunately there is a minority who flout the rules by driving too fast, or using mobile phones at the wheel, putting everyone at risk.
“The technicians perform an important role of deterring driving which puts road users at risk and steps will be taken to investigate and prosecute anyone who is captured displaying abusive behaviour towards the technicians or deliberately obstructing them as this is clearly unacceptable.

Lancashire Police.
If it was really about road safety, you would put out warning signs before the camera vans, to warn motorists to slow down, as they’re entering an accident black spot. Obviously that’s never going to happen, because that wouldn’t raise as much revenue. This proves that road safety comes a poor second in your quest for making money.

Should be gold plated from the money Lancashire makes from dubious camera placements. Merseyside look like angels by comparison!

Don't speed and there is no issue.
Not saying I don't speed, Just you only have yourself to blame if you get caught.
Can't understand the logic of putting signs first. That just slows you down on that day, Getting points and a fine slows you down for much longer.

The Police are constantly telling us that they only place speed cameras in proven accident black spots. If that’s case, (which I for one, don’t believe a word of), it makes perfect sense to identify these areas to drivers. The real truth is that the camera vans are there to make money, and have almost nothing to do with keeping the roads safe.
