A major new scheme will honour residents from across Sefton who make a difference to life in their local community.

Citizens 4 Good has been launched as a joint initiative by Sefton CVS and the Mayor of Sefton’s office.

It aims to recognise local people whose kindness, support and good deeds improve the lives of their fellow borough residents.

Nominations can be made by anyone who thinks a particular person deserves to be recognised, including by friends, neighbours, work colleagues, schools, community organisations and local councillors.

The process is quick and simple, using a short nomination form that can be downloaded from the Sefton 4 Good website at www.sefton4good,org.uk.

Shortlisted nominees will be invited to a special celebration event where they will meet the Mayor of Sefton, and be presented with certificates recognising their good works.

Current Mayor of Sefton, Councillor Dave Robinson, commented: “So much good takes place in Sefton and we want to shine a spotlight on those people making a difference to life in their area.”

Mike Howlett, Sefton CVS Volunteer and Citizenship Lead, added: “Although we already run a recognition scheme for volunteers, we’re aware that there are lots of people in Sefton who are doing great things, but aren’t actually formal volunteers.

“That’s what this new scheme is all about. Anyone can nominate a Sefton resident who they think is a good citizen for whatever the reason.

“It might be someone who has helped out at a time of need, or someone who is a good neighbour. Alternatively, they may run community events such as coffee mornings or book groups. All nominations will be most welcome,” added Mr Howlett.

The deadline for nominations is Friday 11th August with the celebration event taking place in the last week of the month.

CVS say that if Citizens 4 Good proves popular, as they expect, the scheme will become a regular event.
