After the round of matches this particular week it saw joint leaders, once again, in First Division of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. Long time pace-setters, Aughton Institute E, returned to the top of the table with a very solid 4-2 triumph over reigning Division One Merit League Champions, Upholland Social. They were completing their fifth win in their first six matches and on this current form could well push for silverware this term. The result sees them sitting as join leaders on the twenty seven point mark.

Also lying as joint leaders are Red Lion Social Club A as they went into battle with the current, long-time Champions, Fleetwood Hesketh SSC. The match saw a 4-2 victory for the Southport outfit and this outcome saw the first reversal of the current campaign for the Red Lion Social A lads. The result also sees the Fleetwood Hesketh team move into third position in the league standings, some six points off the pace, but with an all-important match in hand over the two sides directly above them. This match also saw Red Lion A's Mark Evans in terrific form as he sealed this week's 'Break of the Week' prize with a fine break of 45 in his frame success.

Mark's frame began with him compiling a nice break of thirty four but, unfortunately, missed a tough long red. Shortly after, Mark was given a further opportunity and he certainly made the most of it. Mark potted a nice opening red ball to gain excellent position on the black ball. After dispatching that black ball Mark continued to pot a further five reds, all with either pink or black balls, with that quick fire style of his with fine potting and pinpoint positional play. As Mark's break reached forty five his first real tricky shot arrived

as after potting his last colour he needed to split the final two reds of the frame but very narrowly missed them and this brought an end to a fine contribution and a superb frame of snooker for Mark.

Mark started playing in the Ormskirk League at the commencement of the 2016-17 campaign and what a debut season it turned out to be for Mark particularly on the 'Individual' front. Mark, affectionately known as 'The Gloved Assassin' became Individual Champion of the League, obviously at his very first attempt, and also captured the over 50s competition, the JF Wills Handicap Trophy, a competition getting more competitive as each season goes by due to the quality of entries we receive each year and generally players getting older. Mark has also helped his team, Red Lion Social Club A (formerly Maghull RBL A) to excellent third place finishes in their league campaign in his first two completed seasons.

Olympic BC B recorded their fourth success from their first five matches as this time around they ended their evening with an excellent 5-1 win at the expense of Lathom & Burscough RBL. This outcome sees the Walton boys move up two places in the league proceedings and into a challenging fourth slot were they also sit six points off the pace and, they too, have an important match in hand over the top two teams, the Lathom & Burscough side drop into fifth in the table.

Aughton Institute A completed their night's work with their third and best success this season with a 6-0 demolition of struggling Scarisbrick NSC. This result sees them unchanged in league position in seventh but they do have at least one match in hand over the two teams directly above them and are certainly well placed to date.

The other match played this week saw Red Lion Social Club B clash with Olympic BC A and it saw the Maghull based outfit register their first victory of the campaign in no uncertain terms with a comprehensive 6-0 demolition of their opponents. The outcome sees Red Lion Social Club B remain in eighth in the standings but lie seven points clear of the side directly below them.

Rainford X SSC sat out their free week this time.

The Division One merit table sees Scarisbrick NSC continue as pace-setters after their very heavy defeat this time around but still hold an eight point advantage, they remain on 86 points. Rainford X SSC continue in second place on 78 points after they sat out their free week this particular time. Third place is now occupied by Red Lion Social Club B after their superb win this week, they sit on 67 points. The seventh week updated table can be found below.

    Division 2

St Cuthberts remain at the summit of the league table in Division Two. This week the Halsall outfit went into battle against their nearest rival and fellow title challengers, Stanley Club B, and at the end of a tense battle it saw a predictable 3-3 stalemate reached. The Stanley B boys will certainly be the happier of the two sides as they battled back from 2-0 & 3-1 adrift to take the final two frames of the encounter to force the draw. This outcome sees

the St Cuthberts team continue a point clear of the Burscough outfit who lie in second spot. The match also saw St Cuthberts Gerald Neale in good touch with a nice break of 27 but unfortunately it wasn't quite enough to capture the frame.

Farmers Club recorded their second successive win this time around and their fifth so far this term as they ran out 4-2 winners at the expense of Aughton Institute B. This result sees them continue in joint third position and closed to within three points off the pace-setters. The match also saw Farmers Karl Prescott in good nick with a solid break of 21 in his frame victory.

Another team making up ground on the current leaders are Skelmersdale Wardens A who were also making it two wins on the bounce this particular week as they comprehensively defeated Aughton Institute C 5-1. This outcome sees them also in joint third slot were they find themselves just those three points off the summit of the league table. The match also saw Skelmersdale A's Mick Fenney & John Martland in good form as they both compiled breaks of 20 in their respective frame successes.

Skelmersdale Wardens C continue to be the form side at present as this time around they ended their night's work with a solid 4-2 win over club compatriots, Skelmersdale Wardens B in the latest Skelmersdale Wardens 'Derby' match. This was their fourth consecutive triumph and are now unbeaten in their last six matches after a very slow beginning to this season's proceedings. The result sees remaining in fifth some five points off the leaders but on current form can challenge for honours this term. The match also saw Skelmersdale C's Lee Sealey in superb form with nice breaks of 26 & 24 in his frame success.

The other match played this week saw reigning Champions, Aughton Institute D, get straight back to winning ways with a fine 5-1 away win over struggling Stanley Club C. The outcome see them move up three spots in the league proceedings and into sixth and a run of decent results could well see them challenging to defend their crown. This match saw Aughton E's Neil Reardon in fine nick with a nice break of 22 in his frame victory.
