Members of Sefton Council's coast and countryside team continue to collect palm oil debris in the tideline along the #Sefton coast, particularly between #Ainsdale and #Birkdale.
So far 80 bags of the stuff have been removed from the beach there by the team.
This material is harmless to humans, but can be fatal to dogs if eaten.
These pictures, taken by Roger Cocker as the team collect the palm oil, show some of the larger blocks being removed, but there are many smaller pieces of the yellowy waxy substance washing up.
Dog walkers should remain vigilant and keep their pets under control, especially around the tideline, although the material may be encountered anywhere on the beach.
Samples of the palm oil blocks washing up along the #Sefton coast have been taken and sent off to the Centre for Environment Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS) for analysis.
Hopefully this will allow us to learn more about the nature of this ongoing pollution incident.
The unenviable task of parcelling up a sample fell to Gordon White of Sefton's coast and countryside team.
Palm oil waste forms a yellow, waxy substance which is relatively harmless to humans, but can be fatal to dogs if eaten.
Dog owners should remain vigilant and keep their dogs under close control on the beach, especially around the tideline.
If you discover palm oil debris on the #Sefton coast please contact the landowner to arrange removal, or if the piece is small enough, remove it and bin it (always wear gloves).
The substance has washed up from Hightown to Southport, but now appears to be part of a wider UK coast-wide episode.

I wonder if there's any connection between this and the foul smelling gas that covered this area one night back in July. Southport residents never did find out exactly what that was, despite the effects burning eyes and throats.
