RESULT Alfreton Town 0 SFC 0
Southport FC were held to a goalless draw against Blue Square Premier League newboys Alfreton Town on Tuesday night.
Sandgrounders shaded the match and they had the better of the goalscoring chances but they couldn’t find a way through and had to settle for a point. Southport have been the draw specialists so fat this season after they finished all square against Lincoln City on the opening day.
Sandgrounders had two good chances in the first half. First Shaun Whalley had a shot that was saved by keeper Dan Lowson after Chris Lever played in Karl Ledsham. Whalley then had a header cleared off the line as Sandgrounders piled on the pressure.
Simon Grand also went close later in the first half as he forced keeper Lowson in to a point blank save after a free-kick in from Karl Ledsham.
Alfreton had chances through Josh Law and Paul Clayton but Tony McMillan in the Sandgrounders goal had little to do all match.
In the second half sub Jordan Hall shot wide for Alfreton and Jamie Mullan fired over the bar as the match ended goalless.
Sandgrounders travel to play Gray Brabin’s Luton Town away on Saturday.
