RESULT Mansfield 1 Southport 3
Southport FC continued their good run with a convincing win away against high flying Mansfield Town.
Mansfield started the match well when Louis Briscoe shot wide after he was played in by Matt Green.
Sandgrounders went close to opening the scoring early on when striker Vinny Mukendi hit the bar from close range after Tony Gray's free-kick had been pushed away by keeper Alan Marriott.
Briscoe had another chance for Mansfield after good skill in the box but he fired the ball over the crossbar. Kevin Lee then had a volley that went over the bar from the edge of the area after a good cross by Andy Owen.
Sandgrounders took the lead half way through the first period when a throw in from Owens was put in the net by defender Andy Todd for an own goal.
Southport continued to press forward and they made it 2-0 when Gray played the ball to Shaun Whalley and his shot took a massive deflection to take it past keeper Marriott.
Tony Gray scored the third for Southport shortly after the break after a long ball forward from Kevin Lee and Gray slotted home a cool finish.
Shaun Whalley then had a shot from close range which was saved by keeper Marriott.
Mansfield came fighting back late on and they pulled a goal back when Luke O'Neill's corner was comnverted by Paul Connor. Adam Murray had another chance for Mansfield but keeper Tony McMillan made a low save.
Sandgrounders move up to 7th place in the Blue Square Premier Division table on 28 points.

daveball,
Yet again you prove to everyone the amount of intelligence you possess.
Another lucky win (apparently the 8th lucky win this season) against Sunday league sides who don't play on a Sunday and are, in fact, not in a Sunday league.
Please would you explain to all of us what your definition of a Sunday league is. There are more games played on a Sunday in the Premiership than in the Conference, but I would not call that a Sunday league, perhaps you would!
I am enjoying this current run of good form by The Sandgrounders and long may it continue.
COME ON YOU YELLOWS.

Leave daveballbag alone it's not his fault if he doesn't know what day of the week it is.
He can't help being a couple of cards short of a full pack.

Yes Robert Jeffrey Stelling to be exact
'Southport are having their best season for years' .... even Geoff Shreeves agrees !!

First class performance against a very good side. First half Southport were predominantly in control and thoroughly deserved to be in front. Great away trip again with TIY - had to feel sorry for the twins although it was amusing in hindsight. Stand up and sing a song for the twins - or shall we remain seated.......Must keep hold of Poku and Walker for the season, Poku has been excellent and im sure theres more to see from Walker too. Life without JPK hasn't been that bad after all.

If Dave (Head The) Ball had another brain cell he would be a plant.
-
shedman, is that not a bit insulting to a plant?
-
If we keep winning he's going to turn into Spot the (Dave)Ball
-
And now Stockport in fa cup, another Sunday league side?
